I think Neil was the real villain of the series in a way. He was very hypocritical by being pally with Finchy yet objecting to a lot of Brent's coarse humour. Also the Swindon lot accused Brent of mucking around too much and then a minute later accused him of not being as fun as Neil.

Finch was easy to dislike as his actions and comments were straight up- Neil on the other hand was easier to like and slightly more complex to figure out as he was a lot more charismatic and knew how to play his staff.

I was kind of bizarre for me when this series came out. I was driving from London each day and working in Swindon at the time. As far as i know the office was set in Swindon. I worked for a great guy Mike, his favorite line was that beatings would continue until morale improved.

Actually I find his acting way behind the level of the others - he exaggerates the stares whereas Gervais and Gareth have that millisecond wait or delay that makes their stares or looks seem real, as opposed to Tim looking like yes, an actor.

I never quite understood this bit. I never understood Finchy's reaction. He's said some of the most disgusting things on the show yet he goes all speechless when David does this? I think the 'everyone stop and go all awkward and quiet' gag structure got a little bit overused sometimes on The Office and this is an example.

I think this is literally one of the hardest scenes to pass on the show- while an absolute beast of a program, such a joke was in no way something that would kill the atmosphere at such a party, surrounded by such characters. Just didn't fit the bill for the cast nor script

The bit that gets me and i hate to pick holes in the office as its sheer genius is that the music is playing at what would be an above average workplace party volume and dawn, the julian clary extra and the black man are a good distance away engaged in their own convo. Then just stop in horror at what brent has said not shouted. Anyway its still funny. Finchys little nod to brents they didnt write this is well done.
