I think what makes this scene so good is the quality of the acting. The guy who plays the trainer (Rowan) is exceptonally good at playing his part. I think most people who've worked in the typical office enviornment have experienced training sessions like this and although Ricky Gervais gets the starring lines, its 'Rowan' who absolutley nails the scene with the authenticity of his acting. Absolutely spot on.

It's hard for me to admit this, but i used to be just like David Brent when I was a manager. I used to hold my staff hostage as my audience and make them listen to what I had to say or what I thought was funny. I'm so embarrassed when I look back. The sad thing is that I'd already seen The Office when I was doing it and that still wasn't enough to stop me.

So many things going on, it’s a fantastic scene. Legendary. Rowan is actually a pretty nice chap but I think Brent sees him as a threat and this is why he constantly talks over him. Also I wonder what is going through David’s head when he turns the customer care training into a battle of David vs Rowan 🤷♂️ “ I fazed ya “ is the moment when it descends into complete insanity 😂 So funny

David Brent is one of those people who's never right but in his own mind he's never wrong. You'll never beat these people in an argument , they just grind you down until you have to walk away pulling your hair out. We all know someone like this!

I feel like not enough “fans” as it were, have seen his follow up Brent: Life on the road. And don’t fully understand his character He’s given slightly less of a hard time and more empathy. There is actually some recompense, which closes the book on David Brent nicely.

To me, it was much more funny when Brent did something tactless or ignorant and then was left to languish in embarrassment of people's reaction to his foibles, because really, no words would need to be said, the cringe actions speak plainly enough for themselves.

Why is this so painful but so funny. Ultimately, It’s David’s personal insecurity about his ability that’s leading to him to trying to upstage the facilitator. We’ve all met people like this. As Gervais said in later years, it’s funny because it’s true!

In the real world we call it a 'skive', an opportunity to get off work for a few hours. Bosses seem to like ti if you apply for as many courses as possible as that meets their appraisal targets, so everyone is happy.

In an ideal world, yes it should be basic common sense, but there are many people who forget or need a top up reminder. A lot of "training" falls into that category. Retraining or reminders eg Safety training.
