Hi Barry, it's all looking good, pity about the leak but you have sorted it. Have a go at repairing the bonnet, if it does not work out then have a look at a replacement, use what metal you can from the mudguards. Fergy is coming on, adjusted the pto clutch, set the front wheel toe-in ( thanks to Lance's videos). Going through the process of getting a VIN from DVLA then hopefully the Ferguson Club can get it road registered, then I can pop down to the Co-Op on it!

Hi Ken, you'll need a little trailer to put your groceries in and a big dog in the back to stop the tea leafs, as for the bonnet your right got nowt to loose, give it a bash as seen what it's like. I'll get some video of the process and hopefully kind hearted people will point me in the right direction. cheers Ken Barry

Yeah, that draft cable is expensive! Thanks for the shout out on the Group 3 stuff! I vote for new (or like new) wings and bonnet. For that oring inside the curved arm, I wound up stretching a new one over the curved arm. Barely went over, and mostly returned to original size. That was an ordeal and I don't know if it was wrong or right, but the old one was brittle and broke, so I had to do something. Should've videoed that I guess!

Well, I actually did video at least talking about stretching the oring over. Just wound up on the cutting room floor and didn't make it into the youtube vid. I started by going over the curved arm and working it over the shaft.

Hi Shane did you need to warm it up first?
@manfromthemist1958
@manfromthemist1958 10 ай бұрын
Hi Shane, well we'll have to try that, guess I might try to put it on first and then cut the old one off, just incase. I know what you mean about the cutting room floor, I think I do a 70/30 split, 70 being in the bin. thanks Shane Barry

@@manfromthemist1958 I honestly can't remember. I don't think I did. I had to order all my orings in 10 or so count batches so I had several of that size to spare. Experimented and it worked.

G Day Barry, bugger about the leak, I think it may have rejection issues with the Massey Ferguson oil 😀. When I get to panels it always takes ages, Im not that keen on that part and probably not that good at it either, but grease up to my elbows is fine by me.

Hi Lance, I know what you mean, thats why I don't restore cars, to much sheet metal kicking about, I had to hide the label on the oil tin from it, as i thought it might have some identity issues, you never know it might decide to identify as an MF next week lol cheers Lance Barry

Hi Barry. Contact ollie Howell for any db parts such as mudguards. If not, I have the same roll bar as yours, and I saw that you are missing the top part of the roll bar. I have one that I can send you if need be.

Hi Crofter, that very kind of you, but I've decided not to fit the roll cage when I get to putting them on, many thanks I'will contact your man re the mud guards as good ones are difficult to get hold of. many thanks Barry

I like the way you fill it up a litre at a time. Didn't think of that my self. Your bonnet and nose cone ain't that bad. You'll have that sorted in no time. Your wings look like they could do with a bit more TLC tho. But that's the way they all are. And new ones cost a fortune! Cheers from Denmark 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰💪🔧🚜

Hi OK Hansen, your right about the condition, I was sent some images or possible replacements and they were worse than mine. i'll give the nose a tap with the favorite tool and see what they look like. many thanks Barry

I consider myself quite lucky, i found a replacement set of wings and a crossbox for my implematic, with just two small rust holes in them... Got them and a loader for 150£ just one hour drive from home 💪🚜🔧 So they are out there, just not that common. Mine isn't getting new paint. I haven't got the skill or gear to do that. So I've managed to convince myself I like the patina-look 🙃

It’s looking good Barry, once you have filled the gearbox and final drives with oil and fitted the rockshaft to seal the rear axle you could take the Tractor out for a drive on private land (do you still have access to the farm?) to test the engine, gearbox and drive train if you lock out the rockshaft to isolate the Hydraulics and the tin work is not needed as it’s cosmetic. The Bonnet looks repairable depending how you feel about the welding but the Mudguards look like they should be replaced, it may be easier to source compatible mounting brackets at the same time. If I remember correctly the tinwork was made using 1.2mm sheet steel, a car body typically uses 0.7mm, and the most common reason for damage to the Bonnet nose was the driver repeatedly running into trailers when using the Front End Loaders hence the popularity of Radiator Guards as an accessory.

Hi Terry, would be good to give it a run, We still have access to some of the land which would be plenty to give it a run. I might see if the big bent in the boonet will knock out, learning oppertunity coming up but have in the back of my mind the replacement one. many thanks Barry

Super video, I think the bonnet and wings are repairable, espc bonnet,love the way you checked for leaks, can't wait to see her driving.Are the bonnets hinged or do they have to be lifted off,.tanx.
@manfromthemist1958
@manfromthemist1958 10 ай бұрын
Hi Colman, the bonnet lifts off forward, so you got to remove the exhaust and air intake, they're heavy and awkward to handle on your own. I'm going to give the bonnet a bash and see if we can straighten it to a reasonable standard, got nothing to loose, Also looking for a mig inverter welder to patch in the tin work. many thanks Barry

@@manfromthemist1958 would have been very handy if they were hinged,as it is awkward lifting on your own,but it is what it is,tanx.

Your mudguards are scrap, but could provide patches for the hood. Good second hand hoods go for £300+, mudguards are more available but be careful. I have seen DB mudguards with poorly positioned mounting holes which you don't notice until you're fitting the lucas fender lights and then you notice they are positioned right but not level, because the mounting holes already drilled are rotated out of position. To fix the guards have to come off again, file the holes and trial refit until they are correct. On the sway bar issue the correct chassis lugs line up with the linkage mounting points to give the correct geometry. Lastly if you don't want a roll bar throw it away and directly mount the mudguards to the reduction casing bolt ring. Cheers Wm

I'd definitely get new wings I did for my 880 and to be fair they fitted pretty well just needed to very slightly tweek couple off stud holes. The bonnet I personally would repair even if you took it to someone to refurb on ebay found only one 990 bonnet £200 and not much different condition wise to yours

Hi Jon, yes thats a problem, I've looked at some replacements already and they're in worse condition, which is why I thought it coul be possible top repair mine, I could spend a day or two just playing with my favourite tool, the hammer and see what it looks like. ear defenders and heat torche. I'll keep you posted many thanks Barry

1 step forward and 2 back just normal with old machines. Bonnet will repair 1.5mm steel, most of the tin work on the 990's seems to be. The metal can be fun to mig without burning holes through.If you can tig or gas weld would probably be better.I have started repairing the cab on mine. Going to take a while. I think I got 2700 psi from the new hydraulic pump I fitted so your could be the same. A lot of oil will come out of the valve chest feed pipe. M 🙂
