Thank you so very much for this one Barry, utterly invaluable, I have had my valve chest soaking in kerosene, in and out of the ultrasonic cleaner for the past 3 weeks, it's almost stripped but i would never had the confidence to start with out your videos. Thank you sir ❤

Hi Mark, that's brilliant, I'm so pleased you've been able to feel confident in having a go, thats what the channel is all about. remember; " don't over think it! it's only nuts and bolts." and it is absolutely just nuts and bolts, take your time remember the order it came to bits, this is where video helps, if you video yourself and watch it back you can see the order of disassembly and you do get to see all those little balls and plates that just jump out and appear on the work top keep intouch and lets know how you get on many thanks Barry

@manfromthemist1958 Hello again Barry, thanks for that! So my update ... today I sit down and start assembling the valve chest. I had it soaking in kerosene for a month and in and out of the ultrasonic, most of it came out OK except for the TCU valve ferrule, that little slotted cap, omg that was reluctant to move, finally the impact did the job. Anyway, after a total gearbox, rear axle and hydraulic removal, clean and restore it's mostly back together with help from your channel. Just fired it up for the first time in months (oh the smiles!) to test the hydraulic pump was OK and had jets of oil flying out because the valve chest was missing... saw dust now everywhere in the shed soaking up the oil but the reconditioned pump ( 12 thousands of an inch out, book says max 7) seems to be working well and the pipes have had a flush so now... time to assemble the valve chest. If Carlsberg did jobs lists. All the best, I see you have a new video out, will be watching that later. Cheers!

@@marklloyd4536 Hi Mark, just catching up with messages this evening, took advantage of the reasonable weather to wash both cars, long over due, I found it helpfull to get a box of assorted internal and external clips, only problem being everyone wants to sell you metric equivelants so if you go down that route make sure they are imperial ones. keep us informed of how you get on. many thanks Barry

I haven't had the opportunity to see the assembly of the valve chest. Now I know what to expect on my tractor. It's unfortunate how your 990 was left out in the elements for so long. How great that it is being taken care of now!

It's one of those things, that we never get to know, what happened before we bought it but it must have sat out in the rain for some time as it was in a bit of a state when we got it. many thanks Erik Barry

@@manfromthemist1958, My Grandfather was the second owner of the 885N that I'm working on. He taught me to drive it when I was around twelve years old. I have a picture of me riding with him when I was very young. After he passed it sat in the barn for over ten years with milky transmission oil and a flail mower attached to it. I have it running now. I want to get the hydraulics to work like they were designed to. That's been a challenge. Best of success to you!!

Barry,, my DB885/Case 380CK had a bent DCV like yours and had never been out of the tractor. I did buy that new valve chest from England. It was cast with a bigger hole and no threads for the DCV. I haven't had any descent issues despite no adjustment. My old chest should be good now that I know how to set the spool. Thanks for all the knowledge transfer!

Ready for rebuild here ,what’s the best way to get the insides polished up ?
@manfromthemist19586 ай бұрын
Hi Sashe, that depends on how bod or good the internals are to start with, if they need alight polish I would get a wooden dowel that fits through the inserts, wrap some newspaper around the dowel to a good fit and then put metal polish on the paper. What ever you do do not use abrasive paper. The tolerences inside the valvechest is extrememly tight and the inserts need the corners left intact or they will begin to pass. If they are rusted and pitted then I would seek professional help to get the valvechest and re;ated spools/inserts cleaned and polished. I ended up sending mine to Barclay Williams for a complete professional rebuild, sometime you need to admit the limit's of your own ability. hope this helps Barry

Hi Barry, all videos are very educational- well explained and good viewing. I have looked at most of theses videos and am curious as to the real story of this tractor to you as you often refer that the tractor has been interfered with in a previous time
@manfromthemist19582 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, many thanks for your kind words and support it is very much appreciated, the history of the tractor would be nice to know so in next weeks yarns I'll give a brief overview of that which I know, I'll also put a request to see if anyone out there has any information or can give me a nudge in the right direction to attemp and trace it's history. It has got a reg number, or at least a reg plate where it's the right one or not cos there's no V05 with it. many thanks Barry

Hi Todd, Happy New Year, sorry I'm no expert on Db hydraulics but it sounds like your latching valve is stuck, if you have a look on FB at David Brown Tractors group today the very first topic is exactly that, placed by Alberto Esclavõ it gives good answers to the problem, lets know if you find it, can't put a live link to it here as YT won't let live links to external sites Thanks for the comments Barry

A little tip when cleaning any type of hydraulic spool valves NEVER let the sharp edges get rounded or it will surely become scored and jammed from not being able to self clean the bore when moving normally.
