David Carpenter was a predator from a young age. After a few stints behind bars, he decided to lay low and spend his time on the trails in the San Francisco mountain, but hiking was not all he was doing.

It’s pretty scary that a man who was witnessed beating a women in the head with a hammer in a attempt rape by a soldier was given a “second chance “. Putting him away for life back then would have saved so many lives. But this is often the case. They allow these predators to hone their skills and move more undetected.

I’ve been getting the warning on other true crime videos even when they don’t have themes of self harm or suicide. I’m not sure if KZbin has messed up its auto-detect system and just decided to flag any and all crime channels, but it really feels that way. Keep up the good content, hopefully KZbin will fix itself soon.

Years ago I helped curate and run an art gallery/feminist art scholarship that ellen hansen’s parents sponsored in her memory. Her parents were very nice and appreciative of their daughter’s memory being kept alive through all the amazing artwork, and her dad was a pretty funny guy who tells things like it is. It sucks they lost a daughter so early and so horrifically, and it was a huge honor to revamp the scholarship and make her parents proud ❤

The person who wrote up the second profile being adept enough to suggest he would likely have a disability like a stutter that would cause him a great deal of resentment is a beautiful piece of investigative work. Serial killer profiling in particular is so interesting, considering their signatures can reveal so much about the personality of the individual before they ever locate them. Fascinating stuff. I wonder if one day we will progress psychology to a point where profiling can be used in preventative therapy early on before someone turns into a literal monster.

@@JessCoreyAre you kidding me? No. They were playing golf a few hundred yards away and would have pretty distinctly heard calls for help and screaming. People. Do this. All. The. Time. It’s called the bystander effect. They don’t want to get involved, someone else will handle it. Especially men. Women are more likely to come to the aid of someone they hear/see that’s in trouble. It’s probably because we have to walk through everyday life primed with fear of an assault, rape, or kidnapping attempt. This is why we are told to immediately run up to another woman and say something like “Mom this guy is following me”, if a guy is stalking us on the street. A middle aged woman is likely to instantly pick up the cue and say something if not call police. Whereas men rarely do anything. I’ve literally been chased through a parking lot by an abusive ex and had MULTIPLE grown ass men STARE at me and say NOTHING. One time when the same ex got out of the car and aggressively yelled at me to get in right now, did a homeless guy outside the gas station actually intervene and said something. Damn sure that the middle class suburban dwelling men I lived a few doors down from in the prior incident DID NOTHING, while the man that had nothing but a bicycle to his name actually tried to help. The only demographic of women that regularly fail to intervene the same rates that males do are Hispanic women, and that’s likely out of fear of interaction with police resulting in deportation or immigration law enforcement.

Unfortunately that’s what happens when someone is very young. They haven’t had enough interactions with creeps yet to really recognize them for what they are, the way that someone that’s in their mid thirties or forties would. The part about him offering to pay for it and not to tell anyone should have been suspicious enough, but kids don’t know any better. Especially if she worked with the weirdo. She probably thought that afforded her a layer of protection, thinking he wouldn’t be reckless enough to attack a girl he works with and could be easily connected back to.

For some people, things like true crime allow them to take control of a narrative or situation that they previously didn't have control over. For example, a person who has seen their own abusers go unpunished may feel supported or relieved to hear other people recognize a monster for who they are and for that person to then be punished. It can be comforting to know that at the end of the story, the monster doesn't just get to go unpunished- even if their punishment is as simple as public ridicule. Not saying that's your reason for loving true crime- there are a million- but it's just another way we humans cope with and work around traumatic stuff!

Question from a city girl. How extensive R trails like the one discussed here or others like it? Hundreds of intertwining miles of varying terrains or under 25 miles of mostly designated paths? If there’s a serial killer in NYC, I wouldn’t pay much attention to it. But if there’s a serial killer in my zip code, I’m walking around strapped up like Rambo.

How better than to be house watching for my friend than to get a video from Jiles on this sunny Monday morning in east Boston Mass. at 6 am. Thank you again Jiles. You never let us down. It will never cease to amaze me how someone's brain can go so far off into the dark world of torture and sexual fantasy while doing the most sickening demented acts upon another human being..... While all along leading a life with a family and career mixing in with the hussle and bussle....whatever bussle is..... of the rest of working people. So disturbing. Thanks again.💗😎

I'm forever angered that these horrible monsters live to be so old!! He's not the only one to reach a ripe old age in jail! Many have lived into their 70s and 80s! Charles Manson, this turd, and many others! Knowing that they have just settled in and live a routine and almost content existence! Where is the punishment... where is the JUSTICE in that? I suppose it's true.... only the good die young💔💔😢 Thank you, Jiles, for the amount of time and energy you put into your craft. It does not go unnoticed❤

I don’t understand how anyone thinks kids that have that kind of upbringing stand a chance. Not trying to minimize what he did. It’s just so sad that many of these “monsters” were relentlessly abused.
@blondbraid7986
@blondbraid7986 Жыл бұрын
I hate this line of arguments, because most abused children don't grow up to be serial killers, and there are several heinous criminals that weren't abused in childhood. It's that sort of thinking that makes the system give monsters "a second chance" and they go on to re-offend.

4:16 it must be a big coincidence that the animal in this picture to accompany the spoken words, happens to be a pet animal again instead of a cow, pig or chicken. I would be crazy to think one could have the view to not kill and torture applied to only a small chosen set of animals, and make an exception for all other millions of farm animals affected daily.

Imagine listening to a documentary about a person who horrifically raped and murdered multiple women and thinking “wow this is a GREAT time to make this about veganism because that’s what totally normal and sane people think to do when listening to the most horrific crimes of man” I was vegetarian for years. Read this room. This is beyond disrespectful to the HUMAN victims who are affected by this person and honestly just stupid.
