@Muhammadick I was kind of surprised that David Chow didn't execute more authentic moves in this scene. He authored a book called 'Kung Fu: philosophy and technique' and it's really very good.

sirlordwhitman probably because what works in real life isn’t as visually impressive as what he came up here! Roger Ebert once joked that whilst Enter The Dragon was entertaining, if they’d all just leapt on Bruce rather than wait their turn the movie would have been over in 5 minutes 😂

For some reason the comment i left on here 3 years ago is no longer there. So, again I say rest in peace Kwai Chang Caine aka David Carradine, fans of the Kung Fu TV series all miss you. This was one of the best shows ever put on television. I wish I had been old enough to watch it at that time I was 3 years old when the final season ran, the dj

Of course this all looks pretty silly now, along with Flash Gordon, Lost in Space, Rocky and Star Wars, to one degree or other. This was ground breaking stuff in it's day, we wouldn't have missed it for the world, it was outstanding for what it was.

When Kung Fu the series came out,I was a white belt in Goju Ryu. As soon as class was over, I would run home so as to not miss a single episode. Even though the show seems silly nowadays, the spiritual lessons meant a lot to me back then.

Some say these shows are now silly. I'm not sure I agree. The production values are what they are but honestly, you could still watch one of these episodes today and it would still not be out of its depth. This was a show about morality. A show where the ideas of trying to live a simple existence without enmity for all life are still relevant. Of course, you had to find some kind of antagonist or dilemma or you wouldn't have a show but the lessons on being helpful and thoughtful were just as powerful as were the bad guys getting their just desserts. I can think of many contemporary shows that do a far less impressive job at both despite having the advantages of more modern technology.

@KurtCobain198666 Ed Spelman wrote Kung Fu in 1966, a new yorker who was studying kung fu at the time. He dreamed about being the only caucasian allowed into the shaolin monastery. So he wrote the script in 1966 It found its way, eventualy into Warner Brothers library. Where it sat there for like 6 years. Jerry Thorpe found the script a executive producer and created the Kung Fu Series. And its about a caucasian/western unlocking the secrets of the east.Jerry recruted David from broadway.

I don't dispute that Bruce Lee would have bettered David Carradine in the fight scenes But i dont agree that David Carradines role was cold and alienating. I guess thats a personal opinion. Have u seen a movie made in the early 80s Lone Wolf Mcquade featuring David Carradine as the bad guy? Theres a fight scene @ the end he fights with Chick Norris quite impressive !

Even though he's dead: I lost respect for Dave when he claimed he was channelling Bruce Lee. Then later discovered Kung Fu was network plagiarism. Fact "Bruce Lee pitched the concept even a script but the network said He was to Chinese and turned him down." ( according to long time friend) James Coburn. The final disgrace for Dave was, thai neighbors described their american, legend, neighbor, as a boy love o-phile. We will never know because thai police filed death by strangulation. Similar to autoerotic asphyxiation. According to psychology today article.

@KurtCobain198666 ok didnt know that. I thought he may have had some schooling in martial arts. But ask yourself this question. Would Bruce Lee have done a better job as the leading man in the series than David Carradine did? Regardless of the reason u believe Bruce Lee wasnt picked 4 the role u cant take away David Carradines performance on the show which was exceptional. Thats really my point

@KurtCobain198666 I think u belittling Caradines achievements his acting and martial arts expertise. He wasnt the novice u make him out 2 b. He was a capable fighter in his own right. Check out an early 80s movie called 'Lone wolf Mcacquade' his stoush with Chuck Norris 1 of the more realistic fight scenes ever put on film no special effects and gizmos. U mayb impressed and a little surprised.

@KurtCobain198666 I aint comparing David Carradine 2 the actors u mention just Bruce Lee and i think he could hold his own against Bruce Lee in the acting dept. Others also have come up with ideas 4 a show that dont mean they can star in em dont always work that way. Many dont even get a guest appearance on a show they themselves have often even put 2 script!!

I am a huge Bruce Lee fan-but don't understand why so many people hate on David Carradine. When he started the show he wasn't a martial artist, but became one. With Bruce Lee the fight scenes would have been much better but the show wasn't about fighting ability-it was about a philosophy of life. The philosophy could have been better but what do you expect from American TV? I wish people wouldn't think so negatively. That's why assholes wouldn't put an asian man in the lead role to begin with.

@bj616 - This show was initiated (conceptualized) by Bruce Lee , but the producers said USA was NOT read for a Chinese hero on TV. So, they gave him the servant job and a mask to wear on- The Green Hornet !

No mate, it's because he was chinese and racially stereotyped. He made public about how writers were screwing him sometimes in writing, like in Enter the Dragon giving him thick words asian people cannot pronounce like "Mr. Braithwaite" just to hear hi say "Bweyth Weyt" for fun and games. Also his first agents only getting him roles as waiters, dishwashers and menial work. Don't forget racism was rife throughout all America back then as they had just fought the Korean war and Japanese in WW2.

I respect your opinion but as a student of MMA and several arts I disagree with you there massively and I fine Carradine's character performance of this cold and alienating. Bruce Lee actually knew Gung Fu and could fight, David Carradine could do neither but pretend and wave his arms around. LOOK at him in a fight scene, it's pathetic, it's false and it isn't true to any real form of Gung Fu either traditional or contemporary and is the opposite of what Lee wrote about in TAO of JKD.
