People forget Donny Osmond had a large family to back him up thru those teen idol days. David unfortunately did not have the same love and support that Donny had. All on David.

Apparently he really did need the money. Badly. He was 800K$ in debt and had just $1000 to his name at this time in the mid 80s

I've watched so much footage of David since his passing. To be honest, I found him to be much more "pure of heart," when he was in his 20s. As he got older, I found him to be more in his ego, and very hostile at times. I adored him when I was a young girl, but when I met him, I perceived him as irritated because I wasn't a "hot chick!" :( I know I will be unpopular but, I think he was actually quite shallow.

As David stated in one of his last interviews, alcohol changed his behavior. I agree, he did appear irritated and his voice and looks aged him beyond his years. Sad life story for such a great talent.

David Cassidy as a celebrity met lots of people, famous, not famous, fans, and non-fans. Not each person got the exact same impression or had the exact same experience with him. Probably a lot of people came to your conclusion. It could be that you and certain others just met up with him when he was not at his best. It happens to all of us but with him, it becomes a very big deal. Yes I notice that he as a young man had a charm to him so that it was obvious why he was so popular, and as he grew older (much older) it is something that faded a lot. It could be said to be something that happens to most people who just grow old past their teen and young adult years. We all (or most of us ) lose people we love, deal with many financial and personal problems and go through harsh lessons that can leave us bitter and sad. David had an alcoholic father who died a horrible death (Hopefully Jack Cassidy was too intoxicated to have felt pain burning to death), and David also had to see his mother fade away because of dementia, not to mention that it also affected his grandfather. Furthermore David carried guilt over the death of one of his fans at a concert of his; and during his heyday he was overworked and the people who exploited him got most of the money he earned so that in his later years, he was essentially broke and had to try to earn money by doing "nostalgia shows" which I am sure he did not really want to do. And also he developed the alcoholism that his father had and it made him sick and depressed and he eventually died of kidney and liver failure. No one can come across to so many people in the exact same way.

i agree; lets face it not everyone is always mr or mrs/miss happy happy all the time; and things get to you, i think too this may have been the time he may have been married to Meryl Tanz (not correct spelling) which really stuffed him up big time and probably caused him to be a bit cynical (would me too)
