What's crazy is that just hearing him talk, not just in this but the few other times through the years that people have recorded sitting down to talk to him for an extended period of time, it's clear just from hearing him talk that he's a genius in terms of knowing himself, knowing other people and social situations, and knowing art. You rarely actually get that from other people who created works of art or science that are clearly genius. It's more like "did this person just luck into what they created? WTF?" With David Chase, it's like, of COURSE he created this. How could anyone else have possibly done it.

as a millenial, to answer david's question why younger people are enjoying his old show: I think the sopranos is of timeless quality and it shouldn't matter what generation you were born, to be able to appreciate a classic. but when you create something, you shouldn't easily assume what you made is that great, so i understand why he asked.

Gives me more hope for this movie that David is distancing himself with how the movie is being marketed. Sounds like he (as I) has no interest in a Tony Soprano origin story but a film in the same world building on the same themes.
@JustinZarian3 жыл бұрын
To be fair, he always said that the impetus of the movie was a blending of his thoughts on the Newark riots and his desire to explore Tony’s childhood further. So it’s not entirely inaccurate to market it that way, but it’s reassuring to know that it’s not the ONLY focus of the movie. We have a fairly good idea of how Tony thinks and came to be, so it would be more interesting to flesh out all these details we don’t know about their world.

Yeah that movie was lame, but he also directed it so maybe handing off those reins to Taylor like he did will help. And it’s materiel he’s not only more familiar with, but has a lot of support behind it. And thankfully he hadn’t done any other projects in like nine years so that break was necessary for him

Ive watch the whole series once or twice a year for the last 10 years . It’s really my favorite thing that’s ever been on TV . My favorite character changes every time I watch it but , I think the reason I’m able to rewatch it so much is , it’s a case study on human nature . It’s like an amazing album , you really don’t start to understand it until you listen to it through multiple iterations of your own mental capacity .

Will we see what Dr. Jennifer Melfi’s younger years were like and what inspired her to become a doctor? Will the film explore the Tony Soprano, Charmaine Bucco and Artie Bucco love triangle? Will we finally get to see Carmella DeAngelis’ sister, who was briefly mentioned on the tv series, but never shown, sort of like how Chuck Cunningham was in a few of the early episodes of “Happy Days,” and then just sort of disappeared, never to be seen again? Will we get to see a young Hesh, during his record producing days, hobnobbing with such talented musical greats as Connie Francis, Chuck Berry and Frankie Valli? Will we see a very young Father Phil Intintola, sneaking into movie theaters to see “Carnal Knowledge,” “Woodstock,” and all of Jane Fonda in “Barbarella?”

9:58 Chase still has a lot of resentment towards Jim, he has brought this up in many interviews. Sad when a working relationship sours under intense pressure.
@StuUngar3 жыл бұрын
In the Talking Sopranos podcast, Michael Imperioli has said he and Jim were not getting along towards the end of the show. He didnt go into specifics. But while a lot of people really liked Gandolfini, it also sounds like he could be very difficult. But also, Chase and Gandolfini later did a movie together. So they were able to work beyond any issues they had.
@louisekvernoey38883 жыл бұрын
From another interview he said that Gandolfini was a very sensitive person and couldn’t understand why Chase wouldn’t be a close friend with him, Chase wanted to keep a professional distance as to not upset the writing or relationship….Gandolfini didn’t like that and was hurt by it , took it to heart and resented Chase. Couple of years after Sopranos ended they made up and Gandolfini then understood Chase’s position. The stress of making it got to them both.

@@lawnbank Gandolfini’s own sister says on an interview on KZbin how he use to say to his family ‘ you don’t understand what dark places I have to go to to play Tony’ .
