The book(and movie) dead man walking was written by a woman who went to the families of murder victims and said she was writing a testimony. She spoke with the parents and siblings and was even invited into their homes. When the book (and now movie) came out it was actually a big sympathy piece for the murder the whole time. "Castmembers" is a crazy word to use because it implies that everything was a fictional show put on by a legitimate company that has oversight and a payroll. Yes, some of that stuff was pre-planned and played up for laughs, but everything that was done had direct effects on people's health and lives in general because it was all done in reality. It was all in an uncontrolled environment with no oversight. David knew this, but did not change it as his channel grew because it granted him a lot of unchecked power over his "castmembers", which allowed him to push and pressure them to do whatever he thought would be 'funny for the vlog' with no forethought to the effect / reproductions it would have on people's personal lives and well being. Tldr: They were not "castmembers" they were people who thought had a friendship with him, who he then took advantage of for his own vlog and profit. But to this day, he has not taken responsibility and uses language to be dismissive of his role in everything that happened to these people because someone 'did something [he pressured them to do] for his vlog'. *Allegidly* lol

Neistat works for dobrik. He sounds like a staff member doing PR. Sasha cohen was also bought by dobrik and endorsed him. Neistat was hired by dobrik to make this documentary. Neistat would not be flying out to meet dorkbricks' elementary teacher because he personally wanted to do that. He's protecting him because it was a production under his payroll.

Casey isn’t protecting David. That’s ridiculous. There’s nothing new in the documentary if you’ve been following. I saw the documentary in Austin a few years ago. Casey makes positive content. He wanted to make a documentary about a vlogger rising to international fame. After a couple years it turned into a downfall. He can’t release a puff piece all about the rise without covering the downfall and he doesn’t want to be involved with that. It’s really not that hard to comprehend but people want to continue to kick the dead horse and drag another guy through the mud. David’s allowed to move on from the mistakes and live his life. He doesn’t deserve a life sentence. He’s paid for it more than enough whether you want to admit it or not
