No, he's nothing like Hank in real life. He doesn't drink alcohol at all. He is much more mature. Remember, the character of Hank was created way before David was considered for the role. In real life he is more like Mulder, but more relaxed and better with people.

I have based my whole life on Hank and all the moods he created. I had a dog I stole and named it Cat Stephens. She turned out to be a serious cat killer with blood on her ledger so I switched between Cat and Kit Deluca (the second hooker from Pretty Woman keeping it Hollywood). Yelling Deluca STOP! COME BACK! running down the street after a dog chasing a cat is a hole bunch more wholesome than chasing a dog chasing a cat yelling Cat stop! Come back...
