David Ford is fucking brilliant.... While I was guitar tech for Rodrigo Y Gabriela - David opened for us in Europe. I have been in this biz for over twenty years and have seen it all - I have NEVER made it a point to watch the opener evry night for 6 shows. David is worth EVERY note. He is the real deal....

I saw him in concert a year ago in Toronto and he performed the song without a band... more or less just like the video... he had some sort of handheld machine that he would record samples onto and play them in a loop (except the piano bit at the end and some guitar parts which he actually played)... really good live show. Very friendly afterwards talking to the audience as he drank a pint...

I saw David Ford live 18 months ago opening for Ammie Mann. He absolutely blew my mind. What you see here is what he does in concert. Ornate musical constructions, put together piece by piece. He got a standing ovation and then just slinked offstage, no encore. This guy is amazing.

Regardless of other comments about this being "just a bit of music" I couldn't disagree more.. Music makes the world go round, songs like this take you way back when, and leave you hanging on right now at the same time... It's so pure and intense all in one sitting. Your voice, as well, it just great and I love every bit of the song. Anyways... Thanks for sharing this with the rest of us. Saying this was inspirational would be an understatement

Anyone who thinks this is shit, doesn't know shit. Even if you don't like his music, if you know anything about music performance it's easy to see the immense talent he possess. To pull this off in one take is simply amazing. Not only that, but the lyrics are genius. I think anyone who thinks any original song is shit should at least try writing one themselves to have a little perspective. That it comes so gracefully from this man's soul is truly a blessing to everyone.

you can set the loop function to loop anywhere and pause for as long as you want without looping. you start with the click (in this video the click is in his earpiece) then you map the loops i.e. loop 1 through 4, channel one (room mic), no loop for 5 through 12, loop 13 through 16, channel two (handheld mic) ect. you can map the whole song out, you would just need to know your marks, and have all your mics set up.

This is brilliant! I think some of you don't understand that he's not representing that this was all done with a microphone hooked directly into a handheld camera. It was very likely being produced on the fly (to an extent) at the moment. Otherwise he could simply go back through the sounds recording and edit and resample from the one recording. it looks like all the instruments were mic'd separately, so I'm sure he had multiple tracks to push back or pull out as he pleased.

This is really neat. I understand what people are saying about how its only 2 bars of music & its all pretty simple. All true. Any good musician should be able to put something like this together. But the point is, we can talk about how simple it "would be" to do this. This guy just went ahead and did it, and did it very well. I like how the coffee followed him to the end. I assume he realizes that he won't go far if all his music is a two-bar loop. This is just a demo, and a cool one at that.

We had him record at Sun Studio, he absolutely does it alone. He uses a loop machine to record the stuff you hear repeating. He's a great songwriter and pretty nice guy too. Because of the smaller space you can tell more from our video of this tune and he talks about the machine a bit in our video interview.

the looping is done live with equipment that records it as you are playing & then keeps playing that for as long as you like. The earphone is only a monitor that almost all musicians wear when they perform so they can hear their own voice over the instruments & make sure they come out on pitch.
@RRizzo16 жыл бұрын
I saw this guy live in Portland when he opened for Augustana at the Wonder Ballroom. I have got to say that he is effen awesome. He does use a loop pedal, but I can atte st that he does it totally by himself. It may be an old idea, but the manner in which he does it is new and when it's live it is very awesome. Okay I'm done now, I used awesome three times in one post which is my limit.
