The message of this movie and the soundtrack is really simple- it is about love- lived and lost too soon-... I cant imagine anyone not relating to even the instrumental tracks. One of my most favorite movies and soundtracks ever.

I saw this film on my very first trip to the States and it made me cry as I had just lost a young friend before I left for America and was still coming to terms with his death. I watched it again recently and it still holds up really well. I think its a massively underrated film and all the performances in it are excellent.

3 movies that are my fave soundtracks- the instrumental songs are all by David Foster: Stealing Home, Terms of Endearment, St. Elmos Fire. This is #1.

When I heard this soundtrack in 1988 in the movie, I was immediately sold. For my it is by far the best soundtrack ever made and I had the CD shipped over from London in those days. To this day, David Foster has remained severely underrated outside of Canada/USA, despite his beautiful music. A real shame.

So true! We spent 20 years in Southern California & only heard of him there although both my husband & I have been involved in & have good friends in the music business (for me it's Clannad & Van Morrison all of whom I knew since I was a small child. My husband was best friends with Mark Knopfler - lead singer/guitarist in "Dire Straits" & "Sting"/Gordon Sumner). Sadly, "Sting" took himself too seriously, so if Mark & my husband saw him in the city, they'd shout, "Hey Gordo!", as he HATED his given name. The only thing that I find sad about David Foster is the fool he made of himself, marrying so frequently & ultimately, to a girl now who really makes him look his age.

Love the message behind the movie and music. It’s touching how the person you love can bring out the best in you and how their belief in you can make you get up even when you seem like a lost cause. The soundtrack, especially this piece, helped convey that message really well

This was Always one of my Favorite movies growing up. Still love the movie and David Fosters Music. He has made many Soundtracks & his music here really drives the scene home. A boy losing his father & girl not quite fitting in with her parents standards. Both lost their way, & truly the love & closeness of their friendship years later brought a deep perspective, that u can start over & be stronger despite, sadness, mishaps, pain. U can hopefully find & a way back home, the place within u of peace.

This was hailed as one of the worst movie of year in 1988. I saw it twice that year in the theatre. It may have been my introduction to the songs of David Foster but I loved it still today I watch it. Yes.. very depressing but still a great movie.

I think what truly makes the soundtrack magical is that it can apply to any kind of loss Dash loss of childhood loss of Innocence or the loss of somebody who knew you better than anybody else ever would. It doesn't necessarily have to do with the physical loss but it's more about the emotional loss of what they can do to you. I love this particular part of the soundtrack because it takes me back to people who've known me better than anybody else probably ever will Dash My High School classmates. although I graduated in 93, the people that I'm referring to were in the first four or five classes before that.

I saw this film during my first trip to the USA, I was travelling around the country after working on a summer camp in upstate ny, but was invited out to visit one of the kids of my bunk in Phnx Arizona. One year earlier in the summer of 87 a good friend of mine had died very suddenly of an Asthma attack. He was 17, I was 18 at the time, 19 when I was in the states. I didn't realise until really looking back, the full extent at which at the time I was dealing with the loss of this person during that trip. One of the moments it really hit me, was when I went to see this film. I just cried for hours afterwards and I did not have everyone around me that I could explain it to. It's ironic now that I can relate to the film on an even deeper level, now that I am older. The themes of loss and regret are even more relevant now that I have lived a very full life, full of plenty of both. It's a credit to the filmmakers and the cast that Stealing Home really is timeless. I bet they never thought it would impact people in such a way, but its clear from reading the comments below mine, that it did exactly that. And boy, do I miss my Dad when I watch this movie.

The movie came out in 1988. And was COMPLETELY BURIED by the competition of that year. "Die Hard, Willow, The Accused (another Jodie Foster movie), Child's Play, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Twins, Land Before Time, A Fish Called Wanda, Heathers, Bull Durham, Young Guns, Scrooged, Coming to America, Mississippi Burning, Big, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Beetlejuice, Rain Man"! ALL OF THESE RELEASED IN 1988! Historical (sort of) to completely stupid & silly movies. "Stealing Home" is a movie and a situation that i will say that over half of us possibly could find ourselves in one day. It's a movie that is set in the grandest of locations, the human heart and memory. It's one of the better movies about anyone, in any day and age. The Scene where Billy is in Katie's VW Bug hauling ass to the pier because he FINALLY figures out what she wanted him to do; who hasnt ever been that excited to do somethingething for someone so important to both and knowing that it won't ever be forgotten? And the music? LOL! I will say this, George Lucas thanked Hollywood's main film composer John Williams once for his work on 1977's "Star Wars" by saying "Thank you John for letting me make film to the most imaginative music ever recorded"! Without the right music and the right composer scoring the soundtrack, you would have had nothing but a movie that was only half finished. Without the movie, music that would be cataloged in the 'Not my thing' catagory. Marry the right sound with the right sight, it is perfection! John Barrys music for "Somewhere in Time" is the ABSOLUTE PERFECT EXAMPLE of a movie that got little if ANY attention at the box office. But since its release on VHS then DVD it is now considered a classic. David Foster is one of the greatest. Losing him would be along the lines of losing composer James Horner (Titanic, Glory, Something Wicked This Way). We get 1! And thats it. Sorry for taking up so much room. I'm a disabled 50 yro man with a very bad heart that im waiting on to kill me one day soon and i go off on long adventurous trips into left field at times. I'm also a musician. Movie soundtracks are my true love although everything from Rush to Reba to Limp Biscuit to Lynyrd Skynyrd are also some favorites. I'm not arrogant, but narrow minds are hard for big imaginations to get through.

I went to see it with a chic who said she thought it was more of a movie a guy would like. It was mostly about a guy who's been lost in direction, for 20 years and through a tragedy he finds himself and is reminded of what he loves doing the most in life. It's funny that there are those who say it's for chics, and back then, chics wouldn't see it because --- "I'm not into Baseball." It's not that either.
