I can only imagine the thrill of hearing the audience cheer as you go to grab the guitar to play the solo that they're waiting - DYING - to hear at that moment in the song. It must be amazing, knowing that those people, at that moment, are there to hear YOU. What YOU have to play, what YOU have to express, what YOU'RE presenting to their ears. I bet there's nothing like it. I hope to feel that, myself, one day.

He didn't give up any fame at all. His fame grew from LiveAid. He was a relatively minor punk singer before then, with one major hit. And he lived in an expensive house in central London. He had/has money. I doubt he is an angle, more likely a saxon?

Comfortably numb's guitar solo is considered one of the greatest guitar solos of all times. The fact that David Gilmour does this solo maybe explains the reason it's held in that high regard.

I think its brilliant that so many people observed the issue of reading from the notes. If you look at Bowie singing it in an immeasurably superior and emotive manner, he doesn't resort to this ploy. What reading from the notes says to me is "oh, I am so important, and I have so much going on that how could I be expected to remember the words of this poxy little song that I lend my great presence to". And that generally applies to every prima donna who does this on stage.

Avery Goodman To be completely honest. I'm not the biggest fan of the third side. Ofcourse Comfortably numb is the absolute pinnacle of the album and Pink Floyd in general but I just really can't get into songs like Hey you(apart from the ending solo) and Vera. However I am a HUGE fan of the first and second side...

I have been a floyd fan for quite a while. Saw them in Raleigh NC early 90's. Never understood what happened with breakup until now. Doesn't matter. This live performance is truly (maybe accidentally) one of the best of all time. Caroline on the cello and David on the acoustic and lead playing perhaps the Floyd Stairway to Heaven. There was so much talent in Floyd. Roger was the driver but he should have taken stock in the talent of all. Reunion please!!!!

And now while gildmour changing guitar before the SOLO people start clapping and shouting. If i were Gilmour i would be so proud for myself. Thanks god gave us Gilmoud

I suspect Geldof had that lyric sheet to give a fresh feel, like he didn't really know the song. He was looking up most of the time he sang so obviously he knew the words. Love how Gilmour changed guitars without missing a beat.
