Live at Robert Wyatt's Meltdown 2001
"High Hopes" is the eleventh and final track from the 1994 Pink Floyd album, The Division Bell, composed by David Gilmour with lyrics by Gilmour and Polly Samson. Its lyrics speak of the things one may have gained and lost in life, written from Gilmour's autobiographic perspective. Gilmour has said that the song is more about his early days, and leaving his hometown behind, than about the seeds of division supposedly planted in Pink Floyd's early days.

He is unimaginably talented. Think about it - he writes the songs, writes the lyrics, plays the acoustic, the electric, and the slide. And he's not mediocre at them; he's freaking DAVID GILMOUR at them. What it must be like...

Wow! Epic performance you witnessed. The fact that I’m the second comment on this bespeaks the stupidity of KZbin algorithm or the fans of David Gilmour and Pink Floyd. That said, how long was this performance? What songs did they play? I can only imagine some other favorites that would be amazing with this set up. What songs got this whole band treatment? How were they?
@Morgyborgyblob
@Morgyborgyblob 5 ай бұрын
@@theusachad75 I can't recall how long it was in total. Hour and a half? He started off with Shine on You Crazy Diamond, but played it all on one acoustic, with a pedal loop. Dick Parry came on at the end for the saxophone. Wish You Were Here, Fat Old Sun, some Barret songs, some French opera. At one point someone called out for some Animals, to which Gilmour replied, "Oh, God, we'd be here all night!" All tracks apart from the opening one were performed with the band like this. The 'Doctor' in Comfortably Numb was sung by someone off stage, and I later found out it was Robert Wyatt himself.

Gilmores signal strength is galactic. His broadcast is legendary in the Local Group The Floyd shows with Syd were stronger, that's why he just stood there beaming out gravity waves through out the Virgo super cluster, every one thought he was crazy maybe he was but he didn't act out otherwise. The Floyds caught enough of Barrets affect to gauge a good compromise of being out there and being present simultaneously generate the gravitational waves with out loosing your sense of locality and still pluck the dark matter strings of the universe.

I remember the first time I heard this. Came home and to my surprise my mum had bought The Division Bell. I took it up to my room, put the cd in, pressed play, lay back on my bed and just melted as I listened uninterrupted from the start of the album to the very end. And when it finished I pressed play and listened to the entire album again. The album will always be special to me because of the state of bliss it gave me that day. Not because of anyone or any thing, just the feeling of tranquillity it gave me. You can't buy that.

"High Hopes" Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young In a world of magnets and miracles Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary The ringing of the division bell had begun Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway Do they still meet there by the Cut There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps Running before time took our dreams away Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground To a life consumed by slow decay The grass was greener The light was brighter With friends surrounded The nights of wonder Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again Dragged by the force of some inner tide At a higher altitude with flag unfurled We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world Encumbered forever by desire and ambition There's a hunger still unsatisfied Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon Though down this road we've been so many times The grass was greener The light was brighter The taste was sweeter The nights of wonder With friends surrounded The dawn mist glowing The water flowing The endless river Forever and ever
