It's the first time I've seen David play it, because for me it's definitely his best solo, it's just a shame that it's already been modified many times at concerts. That powerful compressor is important because there he plays long notes and the string wouldn't sound as long as it needs to. Perfect!

AGREED! That's what I said... "Got squish?" His live show is also very "greasy." The EFX and signal processing are a large part of his extraordinary sound. But man, the guy has feel, and aside from Joe Walsh on a Bigsby, NO ONE has a better hand for a vibrato bar. Both use it in a very singular way.

Yes, this Gold Top was included in his guitar auction. The only one I can think of that wasn't in there was his burst Telecaster (which featured in the last ever Pink Floyd single, with the Ukrainian soldier).

I've read repeatedly that he uses 10, 12, 16, 28, 38, 48 on the strat and 10.5, 13, 17, 30, 40, 50 on the LP. I can get through the solo okay with a .010 -.048 set on my LP, and the shorter scale helps, but I think the flatter radius does too. Gilmour can wring out perfect fourth bends on any instrument, but he's been doing that for decades.

@@dmytrogarastovych7684 I use 10's on my lp and I find it easy enough to bend 2+ steps on the b string. Sometimes I can get 3 steps on the g and I tend to cap out and 1.5 on the e. On my strat I play 9's and I can get an extra half step on each string usually.

He bought it in 1978 for a couple thousand dollars. He probably asked his guitar tech the year because he also owns a very similar '56 goldtop. He sold all of his guitars in 2019 and fetched $21.5M, 100% of which went to charity.
