It’s called _practice._ A lot of listening, while playing along with, and loving the records and live performances. Transcribing them can be done by programs, and her very close. I learned a lot of Gilmour and Hendrix stuff, by watching performances, and spending many, many hours playing the music. I went my own way, over learning so many songs note for note, but I did pay attention to his effects and tones for different performances.

I have the elastic mattress with stereo output and volume trim which i love, patriarch which i use as a backup muff and for live pompeii tones, powerbooster a month after your video came out since i bought the td-y. Td-y v-2 which imo, v-1 is chandler, v-2 is 911 bkb, love it to death, you were right saying i wasnt going to regret it. I also bought m-1-a, which doesnt have that rams head grit i love, so it didnt replace my 73 rams head, it also makes me wish pastfx had a take on rams head instead of just a boosted one. I do have mischief which i like, but i like td-y cranked to max on v-2 mode better. Pastfx pedals make up 50% of my pedalboard thanks to you, i cant wait for then to make pegasus chorus and prism phaser, and hopefully a rams head in the future. Legendary pedal company, and legendary show casing musta!

You have been a great inspiration to me! 100% Credit to your videos, I have sold my Line 6 HD POD 500x digital guitar modeler and purchased many of your recommended analog pedals and my tone is now better than ever! Thank you so much for your videos! I will be retiring soon and will soon need to sell about 5 of my guitars and downgrade in size from my Marshall 1960 lead 1/2 stack and DSL 100h tube head as my wife & I will be moving from very large house into a very small 40ft 5th wheel toy hauler and hitting the road full time. I would love to see your review of the new "Fender Tone Master Pro" guitar modeler and see what kind of Gilmour tones can you get out of her? please please! I cant think of anyone else better on the planet other than David Gilmour himself to review this new product!

I own a original BLD pedal in the 80's. In fact at that time I had several of the TC Electronic pedals. I sold the SPE compressor pedal because it pumped (Eric Johnson used one) I also sold the dual parametric equalizer (The Edge used one) They had a preamp pedal I should have bought but I was too stupid to know what it was (!) The SCF chorus I had, which I plugged into my Marshall to play "Distant Early Warning" with the SPE compressor in front. The BLD was actually one of the best. You could run it as a distortion or as a post-gain clean booster. It has an adjustable noise reduction circuit after the distortion. It has a XLR output, which is great for an acoustic guitar. Because of its features it was best to put it at the end of your gain string. The distortion was crisp and it could make a Fender amp sound a lot like a cranked Marshall.

Great job. Still waiting to hear that Skreddy Swirl and for PastFx to release either a rotary , vibe or even a deluxe electric mistress. After owning them all the box DEM sounds more like DG to me more over every original and cloned mistress released. Maybe it’s the sound of his rotary’s mixed with the green mistress that makes it sound more Deluxe-ish. That could be the name of it lol. Although the Mooer sounds very close. Wonder why the M-1 stacked Ramshead and powerbooster doesn’t get much attention.

I have both M1A and Patriarch. If I could only have one, the Patriarch. The M1A is very smooth sounding and does not have that gritty, hollow tone to it. I agree with another commenter on hear I wish Pastfx would have just cloned the Rams head outright, and not combined with the boost.

Gilmour used Mesa/Boogie amps for years as an "expensive" overdrive, which had a loadbox on it, so only the preamp stage was sent to his Fender and later, Hiwatt amps. I'm a HUGE fan of his A Momentary Lapse Of Reason Tour sound, especially the Venice gig. I believe his Boogies were set to a very mild overdrive and was blended with the TC Electronic Booster/Line Driver, his Muffs and his Boss Heavy Metal HM-2 (and later on in the tour, his Digital Metalizer which he used in Venice and at Knebworth, instead of the HM-2). I prefer that tone over PULSE, but only slightly. Now that Mesa/Boogie's got pedals out, I find it a bit strange he didn't go back to using Boogie overdrives. I mean, the problem with dragging around the Mesa only for it's preamp (that's why he switched to the Mesa Studio preamp at the Knebworth gig) is over now and even though the pedals don't sound like atheir fullblown amps, they do sound close enough and Gilmour put the amp on "slightly overdriven" anyway. I believe it's always on in his overdriven signal, even for the solo on Dogs Of War. I can hear that Boogie sound in there, together with the TC Electronic. Oh and Gilmour did use a Blackstar valve distortion pedal in his studio after 2009 and Blackstar, as most people say, are the cheaper Boogie (not that money's an issue, but Mesa didn't have pedals out back then I believe, so... second best option for him. What also surprised me about his AMLOR tour rig, is the fact there's no Mistress, no phaser, no Doppola's. Instead he used a TC Electronic 1210, and some other 'yet to be identified' multi-effect. Noone knows what that thing is his rack really is. :)

I think he wanted to change the sound after Roger. I'm more of mid 70's and mid 2000's tour sound kind of guy. Though, I started appreciating Delicate Sound Of Thunder sound AFTER the mix. Later Years Package has better sound in my opinion. The first release was really not suited to my taste.

Musty, please do a video on eq curves. The real secret is that there are really specific frequency cuts and boosts. For instance if you boost 120-240 hz cut from 8k-16k, once you do that boost at 4k until those pickups start singing through the mix. That should give you that dark pulse tone that’s fat, yet not muffled. Cuts beautifully, yet is not shrill on the top end. Do what you can with that thinking process I think it’s crucial to nailing the sound

Patriarch of P19 for Big Muff tones? Because I have the Big Muff Green Russian but it doesn’t convince me much.
@CorbCorbin
@CorbCorbin 5 ай бұрын
Well, Gilmour has used a Green Russian. They all aren’t built equally. Some just stink. Some get a bit of cleanup with the volume knob. He also runs the Tube Driver into the Muff, or something else. He has eq pedals, buffers, compression, modulation, etc. that also shape the tones. I think the Violet Ram’s Head, is better for getting tones from 70’s through his last shows.

Have you ever run a reverse test? That is, given a DG tone that is not given away by a song, can you tell which gain pedal(s) it was made from ?? I bet most people can'r do it. How many gain tones should a player have on tap? I don't think Gilmour has his rig set where he can recreate every tone he's ever created. That is insanity.
