IMPORTANT!!!! READ ALL!!!! I kindly want to remind you that, the extracted sounds you hear are good but they lose some frequencies while extracting, obviously… So the sounds you hear from my guitar may not be %100 the same, it can never be, but it’s as close as it can get! Also there is probably EQ ALL OVER but I can’t be sure on which so I didn’t “tick” EQ on any of the signal chains. And we have no idea about the studio trickery after the recordings. I just give you my raw sound... Now that I watch the video again, Comfortably Numb sounds a little brighter than the other big muff tones, what you think about that? Maybe G-2 and P-1 together? Maybe compression was added? Thanks for all the work on this video, awesome job. I think that Live In Gdansk is the pinnacle of David's live tone. I had the Red Strat and the Pulse era at the top until this came out. What an Incredible album and hard to believe it was a live performance. The highlights - my favorite version of my favorite song, Shine On (wine glasses, are you kidding me?); THE definitive performance of Echoes, shining a spotlight on Rick; and the Baltic Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, especially on High Hopes and Where We Start, with both of those outro solos being masterpieces. On another note, check out the TC Electronic Infinite Sample Sustainer for sound-on-sound - great pedal!

This was a really good video. My rig to get close goes like this. squier classic vibe 50s strat > Fender The Bends compressor > Rat clone > Boss BD-2w > EHX Rams Head Reissue > Mooer Flex Boost > Boss DD-3 > Hiwatt T20. Where are you confirming he used g2 heavily? There’s almost zero data on what pedals were used at what times in Gdansk and I’ve never seen any confirmation of the g2 being used for anything in particular. Plus, it was removed from the Cornish mark ii board shortly after, so it’s unlikely he used it much if at all.
@mustyguitar Жыл бұрын
there is no doubt he used g-2 in live 8, it's the same tone on gdansk for a lot of songs. of course, it all comes down to guessing and experience from playing with different pedals. a big muff can never sound like g-2 and vice versa. same goes for tube driver. you can only try them all to hear the difference. also I've read in a few interviews (2006) that he doesn't use big muff as much as he used to. that means most of the sound from gdansk comes from a fuzz unit, a tube driver can't give you that echoes sound. it just can't. g-2 and tube driver are not clipped the same. they don't have the same circuit inside, it's not even close. that leaves you with the option of g-2. I'm not sure about the rest of the tour, I know that gdansk was dark, smoother, a little muddier and g-2 was heavily used, I know that remember that night is brighter and thinner, meaning he might not have g-2 in his rig but I'm not sure yet, it's not my favorite recording so I can't speak about it right now. I'll of course make a video about remember that night too but I need to read and try a lot of settings first to make a conclusion. I also know that remember that night was recorded months before gdansk. so I'm not sure if he removed it from his rig. I don't agree. at least at my current knowledge. venice is another example of his tone, it's not quite like gdansk, venice is brighter and close to remember that night and 2015 rattle that lock tour (not 2016 live at pompeii, that's different). again, this here is all my experience and my research on the subject. I'm not his guitar tech, I'm just trying (literally) almost every type of setting and come to a conclusion and share it.

@@mustyguitar with respect, you don’t own a Tube Driver or a G2. You have “clones” but you’re just trusting someone that they sound like the real thing. But that’s not a strong basis for making evaluations. I own a G2 and 7 Tube Drivers and they sound incredibly similar at higher gain. I guarantee I could fool you 9 times out of 10 which is which. If you’d like, I can construct a blind test for you on KZbin to see if you can guess correctly. I’ve tried this and it’s more difficult than you would think. Additionally, if you’re using EQ to subtract the other instruments from the mix you are fundamentally changing the guitar tone in the process as a result. Another factor you’re not considering, which has a huge impact, is that Gdansk was when he brought new amps into the mix. In that show, the Alessandro Redbone Special is very prominent in the mix with his Hiwatts. For this reason, and many more, you cannot simply listen and say with complete confidence what pedals he’s using. There are just too many variables. When it comes to documented proof, I trust Kit Rae and he says that almost none of the signal chains for Gdansk are confirmed. Most importantly, there is no documentation on if he used the G2 during Gdansk at all. It’s unfortunate, but it’s the truth.

@@cody3078 Okay, thank you for your insight and comment. I'm going to approach your excellent answer with a few different key point and that will be it. I'm not going to continue with this "who said what" contest from now on. First of all, nothing is certain in this part of the universe, I mean guitar world and especially Gilmour-wise, and that's what I always say. I'm very, VERY careful with my words. Documenting something doesn't make it %100 true. And not documenting something %101 doesn't make it wrong. Most of nonsense in the web and KZbin are not right (I'm talking about crappy videos and all, not disrespecting the great work some do). This is where we engage the action process. Trying it, copying it, experiencing it. I never share anything I'm not %90 sure but that %10 is a leap of faith to see if someone has better ideas, or documents as you would say. Nobody knows that last %10 except Phil Taylor maybe. And you didn't give any proper documentation as well. You didn't prove or disprove anything. You're just making assumptions like me but you base that on nothing. Nothing... I give detailed sound clips and comparison. You just trust someone who made a website (I do too, but you understand my point) You should approach to these kinds of arguments with your experience, your (for this subject) sounds, your documents (which again, you haven't given any), KitRae and Gilmourish or whatever. KitRae is not an authority and I know I'm definitely not one. I can only summarize the entire web about the subject, give it my perspective and my presentation, my sound, my work, my believes. I believe this is one of a kind video about the subject and it's a perfect GUIDENCE. Whole my channel is. I wouldn't share it if I didn't believe it so. Again nothing is certain. I can only share what I hear in my head. If you can do these things better, please do so because I'm insanely busy, I'm only sharing because nobody else does it properly or enough (this is my view of course). I shoot and edit these videos literally at night. I'm not trying to get sympathy here with this of course. There is a job to do and I gotta do it, that's that. By the way, Kitrae uses and documents g2 for 2006 tones on his website which I've learned a lot of stuff but that's just the funny side of this story you're not seeing. Again, I sometimes disagree with his website but that's me. My personal thought. Guy is a legend without a doubt. Second, I own a tube driver and use it quite a lot with my 20w amp in the studio with friends and gigs. I don't own a G2, never said I did. I can only hear the gilmour's tone and extracted guitar sounds and try (literally) tons of pedals. Like I said with my earlier reply, I don't hear tube driver or big muff on a lot of sounds, that's just me. I've searched and there is not much documented, but I try it for myself and it sounds really close. Everyone is entitled to share what they hear right? This is what we do here. I try g2 type pedal, it sounds close. For example, I believe I'm the only one who covered this properly: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqmZZ2iAoKeCeJY and I think it's a great example of Gdansk G2 tones. I use a g2 type pedal there and it sounds almost spot on to me considering my low end and mid range is a bit off with 1w amp against 100w amps. Third, I don't use EQ for extracting guitar sounds. are you mad friend? is that even possible? lol. also I don't use a shitty app on my web to extract them. I pay people who are sound engineer and sit next to them while they do their work (this is how I do some of my awesome backing tracks too). Mostly I interfere because I'm a mad man who tries to do the best about the subject. It's not always the best outcome, but that's being said in the video, of course I lose a lot of frequencies as well. This is not a "get gilmour tone yada yada" channel and you should really appreciate the work I put in here. It takes hours and hours just to edit the video let alone do the proper research, try out tons of pedals and settings and sounds for years and years and I still say nothing is certain and this is my proper outcome for a bedroom level player like myself. Forth, I know g2 is close to tube driver than big muff. I'm %100 sure I'd get fooled without me trying both of them in action. You still do the blind test video, I'll probably enjoy watching it, but I don't trust anything I don't try so yeah why should I believe a blind test? I try everything and that's how I make these videos. Not based on a guy who made a pedal that sounds like a pedal which Gilmour used. My videos are exactly reflects my point, guidelines, try them yourself too, preferably with different amps and settings. THERE IS NO 1 ANSWER HERE! I can make a tube screamer sound Gilmourish if I want. All depends on what you want to sound like. Fifth and final, Cody, about the different amps, these are just guidelines to the great man's tone. There are hundreds of different things I didn't even bother mentioning it. It's not that important for people who wants to get close to Gilmour tone and enjoy the process. Only you and me care about these mini things that affect maybe %1 of the tone. Gilmour's guitar has proper soldering, it's got different pickups than what I use here. Amps are different, volume is different. Cables are different, studio trickery is something nobody even knows. Even the speaker you listen to these sounds affect everything. I just give simple signal chains so everyone, from a beginner to pro can understand. This is what I would like to learn if I was a beginner... You keep trusting the one or two thing you've read. But know that I've read these types of websites and watched the channels at least 10 more times than you did. I think everyone in the web made a lot of contribution to the guitar world and this is exactly what I do here. Contribute MY opinion. It's the best and most relevant to people like me, but that's my believe. I hope I've made myself clear, just talking friendly here. No disrespect. Documentation + research + experience + taking action and trying (literally) hours and hours and hours, and hours + some leap of faith based on my ear and my brain. I really like your comment and it took me a while to answer it properly. Don't be a stranger to this channel

@@mustyguitar it’s not possible to have a productive conversation when you spew your unfiltered thoughts in hundreds of words. My points: 1. **You claim to know more than you could possibly know.** Listening to a live show and claiming you know what pedals are being used when there’s no photo or video documentation is absurd. You’re misleading people. **Be transparent and admit it’s just your best guess but you aren’t certain and I’ll respect it.** 2. **You’ve never played a G2 so don’t claim you know what it sounds like.** A copy (Revolution) of a loose interpretation (Evolution) of the real thing isn’t the same. Claiming that G2 is totally different from a Tube Driver and that you can hear the difference just shows you have no idea what you’re talking about. 3. Tune your guitar.

I still agree with the above comment from Cody. Without having owned a G2, you cannot make comments on how it responds with a Tube Driver or how much gain it has... Besides that, I think there is a lot of wrong and missing information in this video on his gear. You also don't mention anything on the Allessandro Head which is big part of his tone on Gdansk. Honestly, if you present yourself as the person who knows everything on his tone and how to get it, you should do better than this.... Just my humble opinion! With all respect.❤ By the way, Cody is not making assumptions. He just told you that he owns/owned the G2 and Tube Driver. Well if anybody could make a good statement of those pedals it should be him because he has heard them and played them. You haven't so your information is only based on the web while he has actually heard those pedals and used them. That makes a BIG difference imo...

Well, considering G-2 is not that gainy pedal, it's like a high gain overdrive in some cases, it doesn't got enough mojo for most of the stuff so there is no doubt he used it with high gain tube driver. also his pete cornish rig was a little complex, his his muff and clean tube driver had the same switch (of course not only switch) and g-2 and high gain td has the same as well.
@gertjeeeh Жыл бұрын
@musty, have you ever tried the G2? If you combine that with a low gain TD and possibly a compressor you would have MORE than enough gain to achieve these tones. G2 into high gain TD would definitely be way too gainy. I am sure it's not that.

@@gertjeeehI have done some experimenting with this !!! I have a G2 (clone) and 3 x TDS (2 x TDX and 1 x exact replica of the butler.) A low gain TD does very little to the G2. Nothing more than shaping EQ. With a high gain TD it’s pretty wild.
