At times in my life, when things have gotten to much,Pink Floyd has been the music I have turned to for relief. Just to sit down is a dark quiet place, just relax and let the music carry me. This, in the long run simply recharges my internal battery and give to me the strength to simply carry on. From my heart of hearts, Thank You Mr. Gilmour, just for being there. Me being 67 I have followed you from your very beginning.

I think it is comepletely "Disrespectful" to put ads in the middle of riffs, songs, when ever an artist is performing, especially on the level of Gilmour .... Please comment and agree, just maybe we can get this stopped. Seriously if they put them b4 or after i would watch them out of respect ... @larryd1717
@larryd1717 7 жыл бұрын
Funny, I heard an interview once when Gilmore called his guitar playing simplistic. Nothing fancy, just simple. And the reason that he gave was because if he tried to play fast, he got confused. Imagine that. He took a weakness and turned it into art. Now, that's genius!
@kenhoward3512
@kenhoward3512 6 жыл бұрын
I think I listened to that same interview. No, Gilmour might not play as many notes-per-second as so many other players, but his most famous solos are so beautifully melodic and soaring, his note-bending so fluid and lilting. And his ear for tone, and powerful, musical feedback (as on the song, "Sorrow"). After listening for nearly 50 years, when I hear Gilmour - or Pink Floyd - I still can't help but turn the sound way up.
@poseidon3032
@poseidon3032 5 жыл бұрын
I contest that playing slow is just as hard because you have to know scales, have melody, and be accurate or you will sound out of tune. Many guitarists hide behind speed. Inaccuracies aren't as easily noticed and it confuses the listeners because the speed just sounds hard so people are impressed. Players like Yngwie Malmsteen are boring with their speed.

He is a Genius and thats a fact!! and he is a humble man! I personally think ( I might be wrong off course! cause this is what I feel about him and his playing..) he played down his talent certain solos of him are not that "simple" 1st of all taste and touch on strings and music no school teach you that.. either u have it or not..I dont think for a sec that he got "confused" his heart and mind are very very clear and his guitar works witness that! and here u have a few sample of that talent that will always shine! all of his solos are masterpieces for me at least.. cheers mate!

I have never heard any guitarist do it with such passion and feeling. Most just hit the right notes and let it go at that. David makes love to the guitar, touches it, feels it, caresses it. A friend who has spent time in altered consciousness *knows* music is--and since the beginning of "civilization" has been--an intended means of maintenance and repair of the human being. A couple of Dave/Davids, Jimmy/Jimis, a Prince, and several Queens were the right Rx and saved a life that might change the world for the better, even if only a little bit. Billions of little bits better--can you "Imagine"? I witnessed it. Music is necessary for optimum human function. Whatever your Rx, listen *more* and heal.

PatagonianWarrior Greetz to you too. He's 70. I meant it still moves me like all good art does. Santana, SRV, Hendrix, James Brown, Alman Bros, Zep, etc etc. Even a local band called Jam Factory from the 70's. It's universal & timeless. Maybe I like Pink Floyd so much because it's sort of spacey and ethereal. It takes you to another dimension. Maybe it's because I love science and as a kid I laid in front of the black & white TV and took pictures of the first landing on the moon. Maybe 50 years later I've developed an appreciation and understanding of art. There's a lot of good stuff from each successive generation too. I'm sure they too will stand the test of time. Take care my friend, nice chatting with you... thanks.

David Gilmour is a musical genius in every form, but his completely unique approach, his style and his unmistakable sound on guitar can, and has been imitated many times by many people, it has never been, and cannot be duplicated. I have heard a lot of people refer to David Gilmour as the man who has never hit a bad note. David is just as cool and confident on stage, in front of 100'000 fans as he is sitting in his own living room, playing for his wife and kids. In 1967 David Gilmour was about 22 years old when he was asked to become Pink Floyd's Auxiliary guitarist to cover for Syd Barrett's eccentricities in their live performances at first, then later that year as Pink Floyd started to record their second album, A Saucerful Of Secrets, it quickly became apparent that Syd Barrett was not mentally able to contribute or perform in the studio either, except on "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" where Syd and David both actually played. Anyway in 1968 David Gilmour was a guy who could play guitar and sing, but right then David Gilmour was pretty much a Syd Barrett surrogate, David had not yet developed that unique style, I don't know if David Gilmour even had a concept in 1968 of what he was about to develop within the next 3 years, in those 3 years David Gilmour developed, created, discovered, invented and mastered that signature style and sound that is so unique to David, As you listen to David Gilmour playing guitar on each album that succeeded "A Saucerful Of Secrets," such as "More," which was released on July 27, 1969 then on "Ummagumma," released October 29, 1969, then "Atom Heart Mother," released October 10, 1970," you can hear the evolution, the development on each album becoming more and more prevalent, nobody knew, probably including David Gilmour himself, what he was going to demonstrate and present to the world. On October 30, 1971 Pink Floyd released the album "Meddle," it was on this studio album where David Gilmour's hard work, perseverance, determination and relentless work ethics and his brilliance, his pure genius would actually showcase that unmistakable, completely unique signature style and sound that would set David Gilmour apart from any other guitar player in the world, Pink Floyd came together on the album "Meddle," as a musically brilliant group of 4 different geniuses, especially All of David's guitar work on "Echoes," this album was a clear forerunner for what they would spend most of 1972 recording, and would be released in the U.S. on March 17, 1973, "The Dark Side Of The Moon," an absolute stroke of genius, which is to this very day unprecedented, an album with which the world had never seen. From 1972 until 1979 Pink Floyd wrote, recorded and released 4 albums, "The Dark Side Of The Moon," released March 17, 1973, "Wish You Were Here," released in the U.S. September 12, 1975, "Animals," released in the U.S. January 23, 1977, and "The Wall," released in the U.S. November 30, 1979. With the exception of "Animals," these albums were unbelievably successful with record breaking sales. To date Pink Floyd has sold over 250 million albums worldwide, with over 75 million albums sold in the U.S. alone.

One of the greatest bands we'll see in our lifetime. Don't believe me, as of 2013, they were still selling 8,500 copies of Dark side of the Moon. I still have my original CD from around 1985. That is 40 years from it's original release and it is still timeless!!! David Gilmour probably is not the best guitar player that's every played but, arguably the most emotional gifted player of all time. His stratocaster can put some emotion into most everyone. A gift from the gods, & a divine connection to your very soul. I've been a serious fan since the 5th grade (1984) would have gave near anything to have seen the wall tour at 10yrs old! this music is immortal! I should say, it's the band as a whole, not just David. has to be the TOTAL experience to get full on connection. 32yrs of listening, & to this day go to sleep at night to Shine On You Crazy Diamond or Animals.

Indeed, Gilmore has to rate among the top players. Was Les Paul, or others more technically capable? Sure, one could argue that depending upon your criteria. But for me, much of Gilmores work, touches upon a mood, a feeling that goes far beyond dexterity or speed. Gilmore and Pink Floyd as a whole have produced music that touches the heart and soul! I also have listened to Jeff Beck back around the same time I was introduced to Floyd. Beck may have been considered more technically capable than Gilmore by some, and while I recognized his capability and enjoyed it for what it is, it is an entirely different form of music. Like comparing a well written technical document on subject of interest, to a great novel or poem. Different entirely!

David Gilmour was always one of my favorite guitarists just based on his solos alone. I always thought they had an interesting atmospheric feel to them.
