I'm 110% capitalist, but I will admit that Mr. Harvey is a genius, and I really loved this interview, and his insights into Marxist theory.

Nick Adkins Given that you are "110% capitalist",what's your opinion on planned economies? After Stalin scrapped Lenins NEP (mixed economy) and switched to a planned economy,the USSRs growth was so rapid it began to overtake the USAs. It did begin to stagnate in the 70s but nevertheless it achieved something never before seen. The reason I'm asking is because I don't believe a debt based economy that relies on exponential growth therefore imperialism (eg capitalism) is a viable long-term option. So is a planned economy not more sensible? Not being difficult would just like your opinion. And I'm only asking you because it's rare you find a capitalist who can appreciate Marx.

But how could we go to a zero growth economy? I have no idea how this could happen in the current economical model. Especially if this is a stated goal. Markets would collapse and there would quickly be negative growth.
