I had the pleasure of taking my Big Daddy, a retired Armyman [my dad's elder brother] to this Movie. He thoroughly enjoyed it and thanked me giving me a hug. Any number of times I watch this movie it gives me goosebumps and makes me teary eyed. What a movie! OPERATION DAYBREAK.

Just been watching this film again - It is very underrated with some really good acting from many of the principals involved. The loss of life resulting from the retaliatory actions by the Nazis at the time was horrendous and should never be forgotten

I still don't understand why this film hasn't been updated and remastered

This was a stunning film directed by Lewis Gilbert with an incredible cast. Anton Differing was much older in the role then Heydrich but played a superb role. It told the story of the incredible bravery and suffering of the Czech people. The musical score seems initially to be out of keeping with a war story but actually it as authenticity and an ability to emphasise tension and ultimately personal loss. I think it's a breathtaking score up there with the great movie themes. I don't know how well the film did at the box office but I always thought it was underrated. And subsequent remakes haven't equaled its brilliant storytelling.

When I visited PRAGUE a few years back it was touching to see people still visit the site of the Church where the fighters had holed up and the bullet marks all over the ventilation slit. Fresh flowers are placed on the small monument every day
@TheVaughan57 жыл бұрын
Interesting you should make this comment. I was surprised how quiet it was around the Church while the touristic parts of the city were so overcrowded. I assume most visitors are totally unaware of it's existence and it's part in history but that's not surprising considering the lack of historical knowledge by the majority these days. So glad I had an education which included the important facts of human endeavour and sacrifice for the benefit of others.

Those who are interested in the history will always like to visit such places where History was made.When I was visiting Amsterdam in group tour with fellow Indians I suggested we visit the Ann Frank Museum that was not in the tour schedule. Most fellow visitors asked who was Ann Frank. While I was visiting Italy and visiting Florence I asked the guide if we can visit Mount Casino. He told no one in the group would know what is there at Mounte Casino

I missed seeing this church when I visited Prague 3 years ago . Where exactly this church is located ? But I saw this move when I was a high school student in India
@pramodnatu3 жыл бұрын
@@ranijhansijhansi4044 I had gone by Kesari Tours and the Church was not in the itinerary. No one in the entire bus was aware of the existence of Church and the memorial. I quietly requested the guide to take the bus via the Church. She agreed but told me to speak about because she is not authorized to change the route. But she, being the Chech was very happy to show me the place. She told the driver and he quietly changed the route and brought the bus to the Church. It stopped exactly close the opposite footpath, I hurriedly got down and crossing the road went to the slit where hundreds of bullet marks are still visible. Fresh flowers were placed bellow the image of the two Parachutists. With heavy heart I left the place. Nice to know your from the brave town of Jhasi is interested in history.

I absolutely love this theme both the synth at the start and the emotional piece at the final climax so heart rending . I have visited St Cyrils church and the crypt it is a amazing place to visit and pay homage to some very brave men who paid the ultimate price for freedom from tyranny.
@RobDavisTelford Жыл бұрын
Yes I went there especially having read Anthony Burgess's book and seen the movie. It was such a profound experience to stand in that crypt and imagine the parachutists being there and up in the balcony area. And then to learn a year or so ago that Nicola Pagett had died.

I know that to some, the "synth approach" dates the film but there is something deeply scary about that main theme. It conveys the cold vileness of Heydrich and the dread of the Nazis.
