I bumped into David in a record store in Chicago during the Bauhaus reunion in the late 1990s. I approached him and chatted with him. He asked me if I was going to the show and I told him the show had sold out before I could get tickets. He put my wife and me on the guest list. We lived walking distance from the Riviera where the concert was. Thought he was just blowing smoke. We walked over to the show and, we were on the guest list. Wonderful night and a wonderful man.

He's a wonderful guy. My wife and I went to see him a few years back when he did that micro-tour of small bars and large living rooms, just for fun. He was playing in a little pub on the Washington State coast, with a motel attached. We stayed at the motel, and had our dogs with us. We wanted to be sure the dogs would be cool while we were at the show downstairs, so we left to grab some sandwiches as a test run. David (who was apparently also staying there) was hanging out on the porch, smoking. We said hi, then explained what we were doing and he volunteered to hang out while we were downstairs to listen for any barks. Later on, after the show, while signing an album, he had a great chat with my wife about the times he used to DJ in LA goth clubs where she used to dance. Just a really great, down-to-earth guy.

Wish David would spent more time talking about his fretless bass. He played a lot of memorable basslines with Love and Rockets and Bauhaus. He is seriously underrated as he is one of great post punk bass players along with Jan Wobble and Mick Karn.

Really happy David J got this guitar. Big L&R fan. Saw them at U of Florida in '87 and at the Fillmore in SF in '89. Sounds great and wonderful to see it being used.

What a heart breaker to hear the whole story of getting that guitar and having it lost in that infamous fire. That fire caused Love & Rockets a lot of pain. The aftermath is featured on the cover of their album Sweet F.A.

The interruptions were probably due to. nervousness but the neat story was told and he got a guitar that looks and sounds great. He got his dream guitar and deserves it. He is really a bass player but every bassist should own a guitar and every guitarist can use a bass. Long live guitars.
