I remember when I was 6 ...A certain Parent (not my Pops) refused to buy me a pet dog.(EVER) ..I don't know why she had to be like that...Deliberately stand off-ish about pets .. All she would bloody let us have was 'Flipper & Flapper' the GOLDFISH... So I used to go around the Glendale Ave estate knocking on neighbours doors to ask if I could take THEIR dogs out for a walk...Remember their names -'Benny',,'Pipkin', 'Bess'..... Yes, folks , I got labelled 'oddball' even then🙄. Little Benny the Sausage dog I wanted to adopt when the owner moved. But mother superior wasn't having any of that....& years later i tried to make up for not having pets as a kid by adopting CATS. I even go off this new estate to feed stray underfed ones. In fact I'm going off out the back door to feed them right now. Bugger this bloody computer.....(Paul)

The London audience weren’t very receptive. 5:23 am in UK… I nearly fell asleep but just remembered something. Saw footage of Sammy in Montrose on the Old Grey Whistle Test recently . I remember seeing that live in 1974 when I was 12 on tv …Before the rise of VH. Sammy at that time did look a bit like Roger Daltrey around the time of the movie of the Who’s Tommy…I’ve never seen any footage of DLR in Red Ball Jet before VH. I understand there was a brass horn section in that and there was R & B stuff in it. I guess everybody has their influences. But then tries to do their own thing with it…With early Van Halen it was like every type of music you had to play in the bars distilled into Cream meets Sabbath with impossible guitar sounds …DLR must have bought a lot of the swagger and R & B swing to it. and then MIKEY’S high range vocals and Alex’s end of the world drums. Alex told a funny story of when VH played a Catholic School years before they were signed and the nuns didn’t like VH very much …They didn’t like Dave’s groin movements having a corrupting influence…lol…and they had to re name themselves ‘Space Brothers’ because before they were called ‘Trojan Rubber Company’ which made Durex which obviously offended the nuns…Alex said they refused to pay the band and the whole thing went to court. And when the Judge asked the Mother Superior why VH weren’t payed for their gig she replied ‘because when I saw them in the hall I could smell POT.’…..But then the judge replied -‘but how do YOU know what pot smells like’ ?? and Dave, Ed and Alex just all started laughing…and the whole case fell apart….lol…(Paul)
