MAAAN! Randy Rhoads didn't need to learn anything from Eddie Van Halen, he grew up in an incredible musical household and while he did probably do some similar things with Eddie like tapping and whammy-bar theatrics, there was a classical composition structural quality to Rhoads playing and his songwriting on the Ozzy albums he worked on that IMHO are unmatched today. So many parts of that album like the guitar comping part of Over The Mountain and so many other things give me shivers down my spine. Thank you for this. I've been pushing back against what I've come to think of as the Cult of Van Halen for years. A lot of people seem to think that if you're great at the guitar, it means you are somehow more than human and above reproach with regards to any of your bad behaviors, and even that somehow you can do no wrong, or that you must be some kind of saint in every aspect of your life. EVH was a complicated human being. For certain a lot of people talk about how good he could be to them. A lot of those same people also talk about how awful he could become, and how suddenly. He was actually very talkative at the different stages of his life, whether strung out on meth or coke, or even when sober, and left behind a very public record of bad behaviors, harmful words directed at others, and proof positive of a titanic ego that could make him very condescending, selfish and disrespectful at times. He was in every way a classic vulnerable narcissist. He was a helluva talent, to be sure, but he was a human being and often did not live up to his potential and hype. More to the point, as good and as much an innovator as he was, he still borrowed ideas from others, and being human, was copyable and even able to be bettered by other players. Yet his cult can be so toxic that they are willing to throw a punch to defend him (a very real threat if you were critical of him during the time I grew up), and many of them refused to believe that Eddie's son Wolfgang could play so much like him at the Taylor Hawkins benefit, to the point where they accused him of faking it to a backing track and even threatened him - and each other - online. There's a real danger in forgetting that our favorite celebrities are really just people. We can see the effects of toxic celebrity every day in our politics now.

I am glad Michael is with sammy hagar because they are the best of friends. Michael has an amazing voice as well that sammy Said his background vocals were second to none.
