Don, this is terrific, two of the best broadcasters ever, Dave is hilarious going after Bill Carter from the NYT. Tom and Dave are both natural broadcasters, thanks to you for posting this and all your Letterman archive work!

Tom was the best in all outlets radio & television. I miss the riveting interview and his general banter about daily life that he projected as really being no different than that of his viewers or listeners. David letterman is the type of guy in that how he paid a great deal of homage to great people and he had your back and took care of you. It was never a secret in how much Dave enjoyed a true broadcaster and interviewer like Tom Snyder. RIP to a friend of the airwaves Mr. Tom Snyder. You did impeccable work kid!

At 31:57 as soon as he just said "Dave" I knew it was Bill Carter's voice, and of course Letterman couldn't resist making a joke at him by calling him Phil Donahue. Carter has made a great living out of Letterman, Leno, Carson, Conan etc.

Great Video Thx for posting. Was always a big fan of Toms. The one thing that sticks out to me more than anything else is that if Dave was your friend he was your friend for life. He may not have had many but the ones he did he always went above and beyond to help. That says a lot about someone.

Thanks for uploading this :) As much as I'm a big fan of Dave, I always found Tom the more fascinating, because there is so little of his story or shows available these days other than the odd famous interview he did. So it's really great to see nuggets like this. Thanks for uploading :) 'The Late Late Show' is a rare beast, in that it really did and still does try to give the host job to someone you wouldn't expect, and I think in pretty much every case, it's really worked. Tom, Craig Kilborn (less so with Kilborn I think), Craig Ferguson and now James Cordon.
@dongiller7 жыл бұрын
JSYBen I taped all but one of Tom's LLS's (the one missing due to local news preemption) and have so far uploaded two full shows (Dave and the post-Oscars with Steinberg, Hunt, and Siskel) and one guest segment (Bill Wendell), all from '95. Will put up more when I digitize more of them.
@ItsNotDarkYet7 жыл бұрын
I loved Kilborn's first couple of seasons, I don't think people got his sense of humor. For me Tom Snyder was the best host out of every person u listed. The David Lynch, Robert Blake, and George Carlin interviews are some that stick out in my mind. In those days most drugged out 21 year olds would stay up late with Dave and Tom- I'm surprised I remember those interviews. lol

Oh yes I watched the Oscars special. I watched the whole thing and enjoyed it very much. Thanks for that :)

Was Tom really much of a hit with the younger folks. I'm sure the research at the time said probably not, but i can't imagine every young person in America would want to watch a giggly school girl like Jimmy Fallon these days. Surely there would be room for a quiet conversational type like Tom.

I miss Tom's show, too, and I was very disappointed to see it go. I thought the Craig Kilborn show was a disaster. Kilborn was very good on ESPN and Comedy Central, but he never belonged on CBS. I always thought Jon Stewart would have been a much better choice, but would have preferred Tom Snyder staying on the air much longer. We don't have shows like Tom's anymore. Charlie Rose's was the last one like it. I'm 47 so I'm not a youngster anymore, but I miss the great one-on-one conversations like Tom's show, and Bob Costas's show, "Later". Late-night TV is a dumpster fire now.
@johnking51746 жыл бұрын
Tom Snyder was the personification of the purest form of talk show. He was what a talk show should be, talk. Now, out of a usual 45 minute talk show, only 20 minutes at most is dedicated to talking to their guests. Guests are superfluous now to people like Fallon and Kimmel. Tom was the last bastion of a proper talk show host. We do not have one left now in 2018.
@Sweetish_Jeff_5 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. Today's hosts are all about making themselves look good. What Johnny, Dave, and Tom, even Jay understood is it's about making the guests look good.

Here's one of my minor complaints about Tom: He promised to tell tales out of school on his last broadcasts then chickened out. Get why he did it, but would have loved to hear a few. Know who does that now? Keith Olbermann. Doesn't score him any points with friends, however.

I was a big fan of Tom Synder's "Colorcast" on CNBC, but I kind of knew he had an uphill battle reestablishing himself on network late night. I always got the sense that Dave put on after the Late Show because he wanted to imagine himself as Johnny Carson during his glory days of the 1970s... it was doomed to fail

Steve Allen was 73 in 1994. He hadn’t hosted a tv show since 1981, and that consisted of 24 programs over a span of four years. Tom Snyder was 59 in 1994 and had been hosting his nightly CNBC talk show - as well as his radio show.afterwards. There’s no comparison as to who was more suited to host the Late Late Show in 1995.
