Director David Lynch comments on working with Marilyn Manson and him as an artist.
Manson on Lynch:
"David Lynch has always been just artistically regardless of him as an installation or a painter or someone who puts his art somewhere other than in a film. Just simply as a filmmaker I have seen him as an overwhelming inspiration as an artist. Blue Velvet was the very first movie that I really attached myself to emotionally. I thought that it was, besides the colour pallet, the use of film speed and the combination of sexuality and violence and sound and the close ups, I think cinematography wise it's just brilliant. When I got to meet him, he's a very unusual guy - I mean he would say the same thing about me I'm sure."

I actually agree with David Lynch's views on Marilyn Manson as an artist. What got me intrigued into Manson at first was his voice that I find really unique and it's not something you can hear in other artists, which is why like Lynch said, his music stands out. I definitely believe that Marilyn Manson is one of the most creative individuals in the music world and that is why I will always admire his work.

It takes great effort not to think slightly less of Lynch for praising such an un-talented and un-interesting fool like Manson, who has done nothing even slightly unique in any way, shape, or form. But working in a different medium, perhaps it's hard for him to see that? Strange. Manson is, in a term from Pete Townshend, musical sensationalism. He masks his lack of singing and songwriting ability with gimmicks which don't really appeal to anyone aside from those who like gimmicks of that sort. It's style over substance, make even worse by bad style which is borrowed without shame and dishonestly portrayed as unique creativity. Sure, to the eyes and ears of those with the minds of children. "Outrageous" will always have more fans than genius.

+Marcy Gladhand Ahhh - a musical elitist. Everyone loves one of those. Lighten up an accept that music is actually largely subjective. Doesn't matter how you look at it. You cannot take away from people what music they enjoy, just as you cannot argue against the cinematic effect that Lynch achieved using artists like MM. Lynch knows to be appreciative of elements that contributed significantly to his movies - not be a dick to them frankly. So, for me it takes great effort not to like Lynch even more for his appreciation of MM.

+Marcy Gladhand Considering how David Lynch is also a musician, singer, songwriter _and_ sound designer, I'd say he has SOME DEGREE of understanding about music so maybe - just maybe - his opinion is somewhat more reliable than yours. As for Manson himself: a great artist doesn't need to do original-for-the-sake-of-original to be a genius and, like it or not, he _did_ change the face of the musical scene in the '90s AND, on top of that, he was _also_ a great self-entrepeneur and very good at selling his product. So, unless you got something to show to counter this facts, I've no choice but to file your...uhmm..'opinion' under "Meaningless Rant From Someone Who Needs to Feel Cool" and move on.
