Unusual for David to miss the whole point of Proportional Representation. He said Lib Dems vote hasn't gone up much but it's like UKIP won the Eoro Elections on PR. Last time UKIP got 4.5 million votes and ONE seat and Lib Dems have lost out , as well. THE POINT IS how many OTHER people would vote for the smaller parties if every vote DID mean something !!!!! 70% of English/Welsh seats NEVER change hands. They are either staunch Tory or Labour so the others just come an " honourable second" but thry would get far more votes if people did not feel it won't affect the outcome in thier seat..

It was all very well, the Westminster system, when the British Empire agreed to itself it should run the world, a simple yes/no were enough to decide a proposal and divide the House, and all one needed to know to succeed in the world was Greek, for aesthetic thinking, and Latin, for the logical, when any idiot from Hampshire could go on down to London and expect to be just as successful as they were back in their home county. Now, politicians need no more to be qualified even so far as language skills, let alone theories of social development, the history of mankind, general political theory, economic development, psychology, both mass and individual, repeatably and demonstrably shown to exist within the domain of their awareness. If the same skills as are needed to acquire a commerce degree were needed by political leaders (as distinct from politicians one might suggest), then we might expect to see a parliament constituted as it currently is; but they are not, and yet we do.

Proportional representation leads to unstable governments , influenced by extremist parties where your MP would be decided by committee. A ranked ballot leads to stable, centrist government where you still would decide your MP. Whenever electoral reform is talked about they only mention proportional representation, the worst and least effective form of government. Look at the governments of Israel, Italy. The better, if more complicated choice is a Ranked Ballot.
