He seems a very nice guy. And yes, he's right on the money about the translators. Language IS power. And there were cases - extremely rarely, but still - of female physicians in Edo Period.

The real histories from Deshima are much more interesting and also the real love-affairs, including getting children, between Dutch traders and Japanese 'concubines' and a lot about them was and is well known. Who only can read English and not Dutch or Japanese is often mislead.
