As someone who is happily engaged to a Ukrainian, I can say it's like any other country. I was working in Ukraine at the time and a Ukrainian colleague invited me to a small party at his house. I met my girlfriend there and we dated like a normal couple. I never pretended to be a rich American and she never asked me for money. Our relationship was always based off of our mutual interests (classical music, opera, ballet, art and literature, as well as genuinely caring about each other). In fact, our first date was going to an art gallery in Kyiv and then getting cheap ice cream. She does have the expectation that I take care of her, but that's fair and normal since we have discussed having children and agree that it's important for one parent to be in the house. My point is that normal relationships aren't that hard to find in other countries, but you have to be normal about the whole process. If you're a sixty year old guy obsessing over a 20-something model, then you're in fantasy land. That stuff doesn't happen. We see it all the time in Kyiv with creepy old western guys getting scammed by pretty young Ukrainian girls. Look, if you're a guy whose criteria for a relationship are looks and youth, then don't be upset when you find a girl whose relationship criteria is 'lots of money for me to drain'. Alternatively, you could just live a normal life, meet people normally and fall in love the normal, old-fashioned way of shared interests, time and caring about each other.

London City airport is in actual London but you wouldn't fly there on a long haul plane from America. Southend Airport is again not a main long haul airport.
