@@sweetvanillagf training ur cat to do a few fancy tricks does not make it a service animal. And there is no legal place that trains cats to be service animals either. That fact that u don't know that tells me that ur dog is probably mislabeled as well being that fact that u clearly don't know what a service animal even is. No real service dog team would ever refer to an untrained pet cat as a service animal. ESAs r not service animals.

I have PTSD and our little baby Mojo just walked into the house one day and didn't leave. It's amazing for both of us; her wee purrs when she snuggles me in bed calm my body and reduce my night-terrors, and she was young and lonely when she found us so I'm here all the time to play with her, keep her company and now we're literally inseparable. It's unbelievable the progress we've made together. Cats are such beautiful, intelligent little things ❤❤

I'm not going to listen nor agree to a jealous cat hating person who doesn't understand a personal bond between person and animal. So when the cat nudges her for hours before my daughter has a asthma attack. If don't catch in time with a inhaler , my daughter ends up in a hospital visit. So figure it out genius, so YES the cat is my daughter's therapy cat.

I totally know what you mean!!! I suffer from Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome,,,,,anxiety, MAJOR depression,,,,,MAJOR AWFUL Debilitating insomnia,,,,, migraines, allergies, Misophonia,,,, and my beautiful gorgeous precious little angel, Samantha is my rock! She knows exactly what’s going on and what to do in every single way. She calms me down and sits on me and puuuuurrs,,,she lets me pet her to help me get and stay quiet,,,,,,she even lets me cuddle with her, which she is not a fan of being held to tightly, but she will let me hold on to her. She’s not an official anything, but she is my little angel daughter,,(I found her and bottle fed her from when she was just born, a long time ago). She will even let me sleep if I happen to be sleeping,,,,she just knows that I have trouble sleeping, and she will be very quiet and let me sleep. If I am restless in my sleep she with come and make muffins on me and very gently wake me so that I can pet and cuddle her and sometimes I will even fall back asleep! She will even come get me if she thinks I’ve been sitting too long, and will come get me to get up and play with her! I am disabled as well, so I will hobble to the other side of the room and we’ll play with feather wands! She’s just an absolute angel!!! It’s just the two of us now. We lost her two older brothers and her older sister to cancer. Then we lost her daddy ( my husband) to a sudden heart attack, so, we are the last two to still be here. After I lost my husband (of 17 years) I was ready to give up and throw in the towel. But I knew Sami still needed me as I did her, so I made a promise to her that I will never ever leave her, the very opposite of my parents did to me. They both abandoned me when I was still in my single digits. So I totally know the feeling you have to,your little angel!!!

Yup only dogs and horses are service animals cats can be for emotional support only or as just a pet not a service animal
@bakaichigo
@bakaichigo Жыл бұрын
Yeah people confuse terms a lot. Therapy animals differ from "emotional support" animals, and both are different to proper service animals. Three different "levels" there. An emotional support animal is an animal that just exists in your family as a companion for the sake of emotional support of the human. The animal itself is not doing anything beyond the norm for their species in this case. A therapy animal is one that is not registered or trained for any formal services, like a cardiac alert dog for example, but DOES still do alerts and services for their human companion. For example, I had a dog that, after his passing, we discovered he had been alerting to my blood sugars going too high or low (I am testing NOW for diabetes, but did not realize it may be an issue until he started to alert - he passed this month just as I was starting to figure it out with his help). He also used to interrupt for many other things, doing "Strange, sudden, different" behaviors that he otherwise never did unless I was in a particular state. He always did them, even as a pup (things like getting up to put one paw on the arm of my chair - he was a big boy - and MAKE me look at him, much as a service dog gets up to try and push their owner down to sit when they do not listen to an alert). He knew how to do that compression/weight therapy thing, where they lay on you crosswise to help (Deep Pressure Therapy I think). No one ever trained him, he never saw another dog do this, he just learned it naturally in living with me. *_Some animals can be informally trained for this as well, but its THESE strange additional habits that make the difference between "Therapy" and "Emotional Support"._* Therapy animals can be registered/certified to work in hospitals and other places as well, to help others. This is usually done with a few examinations that include testing their temperaments etc. making this the halfway point between an ESA and a Service Animal proper. And then we have the most formal version of this, the service animal. Those are very specific species which are quality controlled/test enough to know that they can be formally and reliably trained enough to get certifications. The ways in which you certify the animal differ from country to country, but where I live you can train the animal any way you want (do it yourself, pay for a service trainer or the specialized breeder to do it, etc) but they have to pass the accredited system testing and perform all the test tasks to get the license, which is not cheap either. Once you've trained and certified, however you do so, you are good to go tho and can get one of the official service animal vests/haltars and a card to carry specifying what they've been trained for. *_I will always recommend trying to go through a proper breeder/trainer system for picking out a service dog, and not training yourself unless you have advanced experience. When it comes to the companion that will be looking after your life itself, one should NOT take chances!_* I'll note that it's also the case for more than just Horses and Dogs to be either therapy OR service animals, depending on the country/place you live. In my case, here in Canada, you CAN register more than those two species as service animals. You just have to show that they are properly trained to do the thing that they are supposed to be doing, that they can properly behave in public and that these behaviors are consistent... Last I checked, they don't require any specifics for where training comes from, just that they be able to pass the examinations testing their abilities. I know of a few people who had their Bengal cats registered as Therapy animals, for example, and I know of one person who had a bird certified as a SERVICE animal (parrot, could talk, was a free-flier in the home, etc - surprisingly, they can be REALLY useful for conditions that are more mental health related). Thank you for coming to my unrequested TedTalk on the differences between different levels of therapy and service pets~!

I realized that he might be feeling threatened by my other not neutered cats. So right now I’m currently in the process of neutering the rest and slowly reintroducing them bit by bit. So far there is a lil bit of progress. 😄 ( 4 males in total, currently 2 are neutered) ( 3 of them are brothers, all are very sweet cats and avoid fighting)

I love your content so much, you're a hero to cats all over! But please educate yourself on in intricacies of assistance animals. Emotional support animals don't have to be trained to do a task to mitigate the handler's disability, and don't have public access rights. They do have housing rights though, as in the landlord can't demand any extra fees for them. Therapy animals are trained to go into hospitals, elderly homes, children's shelters, etc. They're trained to comfort multiple people, they have public access rights. Service animals are bonded with their handler, and are trained specifically to perform tasks to mitigate that handler's disability. They have public access rights, since often times they can genuinely be the handler's lifeline. In the United States, the only animals that can legally be considered service animals are dogs and miniature horses. Emotional support and therapy animals can be other animals though. Salem is clearly not task trained for his owner or any particular group of people. He's just an adorable and comforting presence. That's not to say that he isn't important. All of these groups of animals are important to disabled people!! They're serious wonderful, but it's a shame that there's so much misinformation around them which can be dangerous. Because of the misinformation, there's a huge problem with people taking their untrained pets into public spaces. This is bad for the people, the animal, and even the animals around it. Service and therapy animals are trained to handle environments with a lot of people, they can stay calm under the pressure. They're also trained to NOT be aggressive, not toilet inappropriately, to not wander away or be noisy, etc. They're incredibly well mannered, they have to be. It's bad if a pet dog slips their leash and goes to bite someone. Oftentimes, these untrained animals can even attack actual service or therapy animals. Or an improperly trained therapy animal could hurt a sick kid or elderly person. In the case of a cat, many cats would NOT handle being in public. And since they're small and can't be trained as easily as dogs, the most I've heard of them doing is detection work (like for diabetes or seizures) I know you're a cat behaviorist, so learning about this may not be a priority especially since cats can't be legally considered service animals in the united states, but it would be so helpful to the disabled community if more people would help advocate against the misinformation

The "naturally learned" therapy and service help from animals is no lie. My cats were ALWAYS doing things like that (I've had cats all my life except for the 11 years I had my therapy companion doggo who just passed - I now have a therapy cat again). For example, my dog was just a pup from an accidental litter some lady had in town... No special breeding or training... no history in the parents of the traits being bred for or anything like that. Yet damned if that dog didn't pull off an alert (JUST like I've seen actually trained service dogs do, escalations from nose tap to stand up and push on with front paws and all) any time my mental health dipped below a certain point and always just before I'd have attacks of any kind. He monitored me and it wasn't until I lost him earlier this month (05/03/2023) that I REALLY started to see what he was doing for me. He was also, unbeknownst to ANY of us, *_alerting to my blood sugar spikes I had no idea I was even having._* I shit you not, that dog was doing the work of a diabetic service dog (barring any other underlying conditions -Type 2 runs in the family and he'd been doing that one only for the last couple years - RIGHT in the early window for detecting pre-diabetic development). I'm getting tested now and waiting on results, but I have (since his passing) noticed just how much of the symptoms I have.. The dog knew my health better than we ever could have his, and I was on point with his medical care at every stage until his unexpected passing from spleen cancer (extremely fast, small, in-operable/in-curable... It's hard to detect because it can develop in a matter of days and shows no clear signs/symptoms or produces any pain or disorder until the last moments).

She would come after my other cats while I was holding them. That worked for me because I always had the fly swatter close by so I would swat her with it and it took about 2 weeks and it corrected the behavior. The swats ended up getting harder until she learned. She's fine now. It really worked.

Correct. Emotional support animals do not have the same access rights as actual service animals so this is exactly what she is. Any pet can be an ESA. A service dog has had many months of disability specific task training. FYI, the only two questions business owners can ask someone coming in with a service dog are, "Is this a legitimate service dog," and, "What tasks is he trained to perform?" If people can't answer that second question, chances are they’ve put a harness on Fido just so they can bring him everywhere which is just wrong on so many levels. And yes, business owners can ask the dog and handler to leave if dog is not well-controlled and is a nuisance to others.

He is taking his anger out on himself via self mutilation and isolation, he can't handle the situation with his owner and he is taking it out on the other cats, this is why I cannot trust to have another cat with cat I have currently, cats can and will have a nervous breakdown and will know the suffering of their owners pretty quickly, I don't think this cat can handle it 🤔🤔 my observation, I will watch the end of this video regardless I can see where he is getting from, he doesn't want the cats to be in their face the time, I think he resolved the situation quite well imo, but I also think Salem needs to be close to the vets for the self mutilation and maybe medicated?

I had a cute red tabby cat named Salem. He was very sweet and friendly cat. He was also a cute cat. My sister got him at a pet store in June 1994 when he was a kitten. I was living with my sister till in mid May 1997 that I moved back to be near towards my parents. My parents had 2 cats when I moved back to lived with them. My parents had a very old senior red tabby cat that was sweet and friendly. His named was Morris. My family adopted him in mid July 1979. They had to put him down in June 1997. That cat was a good friend with me. The other cat came around my parents house around June 1993. He was a cute tuxedo cat with an attitude. He had mood swings. Even was very cute in his own way. He had bad breath and even his teeth just rotted away or lost them. He got put down in July 2006. We named him BC because that we didn’t know if he was a male or female cat. He was a little bit smaller than Morris was. He did played with him inside the house. We even had another red tabby cat between Morris and BC. That cat was my cat for a little bit over 12 years. I saw him when he was a stray in late September 1981 to March 1994. He was another sweet and friendly red tabby cat. I named him Roughneck when he was a stray but, my mother did shortened towards Ruffy. That cat had a special bond with me. He did liked other family members in the house. Even liked Morris. I did have him belly rubs on my belly and even kisses on his head. It was my fault on him. I was so lucky to had parents that liked him,too. My mother and I liked Ruffy a little bit more than Morris in a different way. We don’t hate Morris at all. My father and my sister liked Morris because he was a normal cat. They did liked Ruffy in a different way. I do missed each cat.

Can you believe in CO they do NOT consider cats as service animals... how discriminatory... should be all animals and for sure kitters❣🍀🙏
@hauntedshadowslegacy2826
@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 Жыл бұрын
That's the way it is in most places. Unfortunately, the main reason cats specifically don't make the cut for service animal status is because they're so difficult to train. With a few rare exceptions, most cats don't take training very consistently. Even with food reinforcement and constant reaffirming of desired reactions to stimuli, there's no guarantee a cat will perform a desired task. Specific disability-related tasks are a requirement for all service animals.
@msbribri

@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 Yes, that is interesting and very "legal" and mechanical but seems it overlooks spirit and other levels of therapy and companionship. I still think it's a shame and they haven't seen the Acrocats, apparently 😄. I think all animals provide a level of catharsis for an individual that gravitates to a specific species and should not be limited so their mental, emotional, sense of companionship is mutally satisfied for the human and other species. What if a person gravitates towards owls, or lizards, or bears... it should be open to safe and mutual socialization with the respected creatures of choice.
