Dave Canales watched the tape. I don’t understand how anyone could watch the tape and think “yeah this kid will get better and help our offense produce the way we imagined it to”. No. Bryce is absolutely terrified to throw past his line of scrimmage, with a better O-line and better offensive weapons. Sure it could be this current coaching staff that made him worse but its much more likely that everything that happened last year ruined his confidence. He is a cerebral QB, and possibly the farthest thing from an athletic QB, with a broken confidence. Even if my dumbass was the coach I would start Andy.

With other owners I could see the possibility of the owner saying to the coach "our team is in trouble here, what do we do?" and the coach makes the brave suggestion that they bench Young and reboot his development by observing an experienced back up and the owner, perhaps reluctantly, agrees. But this is the owner that threw a drink at a fan so I'm assuming that all of this is his idea. I don't think it's unmerited because of Young's play but it is a much more abrupt decision then I'm used to teams making. Meddling owners tend operate in emotional "get rich quick" ideas. "Trade this guy. Sign this guy. Fire this guy." If an owner has patience to let long term plans work out then we don't call them "meddling". So this whole saga fits the meddling profile. Trade for the first pick. Draft the guy I want with that pick. It isn't working so fire the coach. Still isn't working so bench the player and let's restart. It's all big splashy moves and abrupt pivots in direction. Though all things considering in any situation where the first overall pick is getting benched, I can't imagine any coaching staff not getting approval from the owner before doing that. If you were smart you would at least run it by him.

There are times where I am completely fine with David Tepper‘s impatience.Frank Reichs playcalling was boring and vanilla and the game has clearly passed him by. I didn’t want him to finish out a full season because we weren’t winning with him and Bryce Young has been terrible since day one do you suggest that they leave him in there thrown to the wolves on the battlefield for the whole season if it were me he would’ve been benched after the first game or I would’ve sat him his rookie year so he could learn behind a veteran and given the reactions to the players it was pretty clear they were reaching a breaking point so why not bench him now. So if this was the owners decision, then for the first time, I can say, I wholeheartedly agree with this decision.

David Tepper is 90% of the problem, and Bryce Young is 10% of the problem in Carolina. First, owners who think they know about a sport (unless they played in a sport) don't know what they are doing. Tepper made the decision to draft Young at about the same time he hired Frank Reich. Well, Reich didn't last half a season. But that's another story. Tepper is showing that he is seriously incompetent. He makes decisions he can't comprehend. Now, let's get to Young. When you look at elite QBs of the past (Peyton Manning, Phillip Rivers, Dan Marino, etc.), they showed something that Young as NOT shown....leadership qualities. Even former Panthers QBs Jake Delhomme and Cam Newton had take-charge leadership traits. The Panthers rallied around them. Young looks like a broken man in Carolina. he doesn't exude confidence. Young may have excellent talent, but unless you can command the huddle and take charge, the team will not (and has not) respond to you. Andy Dalton will not take the Panthers to the playoffs, but maybe he can light a spark that can make them competitive.

Complete, embarrassing nonsense, Rich. First, the Teppers LOVE Bryce, he won a dinner party with them to be #1 overall. Next, it is IMPOSSIBLE to evaluate your roster with QB play this bad. Young is 1-20 on third down. It is essentially CFL rules for CAR. Morgan and the HC have not a clue if their RB, WR, or TE rooms are functional given how horrid the QB play has been. The defense? Trash or, what do they look like with an actual lead?
