Not only is David Sanborn one of the beat alto saxophonist in the world but his sound is so recognizable that you know it's him with that first note.

I saw him in seattle 4 years ago. I have listened to him even before I knew who he was in the 70's, backing up bands as a guest performer. He has always been on my playlists. He is the greatest sax man ever. Rest in peace.

I absolutely must say that no one did it like Hiram...he & David Sanborn (and Al Jarreau) made some unforgettable music together. With all three on the bill, (and Will too!) you knew it was going to be a magnificent and a fresh show like no other! I feel so fortunate to have seen them so many times together! I always left loving each one's style as much as the others; yet hearing how each enhanced and brought the best out in the others. It was mesmerizing and truly inventively delightful. Ahhh yes, back in the day ~

betaguy Sanborn is sadly not in same category as them...but he is very good. they say that sanbor doesnt want to be connected only to smooth jazz but then why does he usues this squeaky sound all along? he should change the mouthpiece, reid or the whole sax cause this is pure smooth jazz sound.

I've been in bands where the leader can get a little upset with the lead guitarist for getting too far out, it tends to make some leaders a little nervous. I can picture Sanborn biting his lip on occasion. I do like the guitarist, some of his moves can get a little quirky.
