Not necessarily. I use raw umber and blue to make black.

Yes but how do i know the values? how am i going to know just how dark do i have to make it or how bright?

Squint at your subject. and practice. a lot :)

First compare your subject with your drawing /painting. Then determine the lightest light and the darkest dark. From there you can try to determine which values are about in the middle, so on and so forth....and yes, squint a lot.

if you're working from a photo reference then take it into an image editing program like photoshop and view the image only as black and white.
