David Shire's theme breathes classic film noir atmosphere and yet is so deeply rooted in 70s coolness - you can literally smell the booze, the cheap perfume ... and the blood on the wads of cash of just another blackmail gone wrong. Superb!

Noir themes don't get better than this. It's appropriate that that best screen Marlowe gets the best theme.
