My god wasn't it lol. This film is a testament to what a good script with a fine director and very talented actors can achieve. No ridiculous effects, no unnecessary gore. Just fine acting with great direction and dialougue. This film was released on prime time TV when I was around 8 years old. It has a PG rating for the love of God lol. I mean how many truely good horror movies have anything north of an R rating 😅. This is the only one I can think of and it's a masterpiece IMO. Still love this movie today.

This film gave me night terrors as a kid. Took me as a grown adult to figure out why when I rewatched with my kids one Halloween. When it aired my family has just moved into a two story house with woods in the backyard. Was afraid I would hear knocking on my bedroom window at night. Great video Mr Soul.

As a Brit, I'm proud to say that we've produced some wonderful TV Horror movies too. Check out "Whistle & I'll Come To You" (believe it was made in the 60's) and The Signalman. Both of these shorts were adaptations of works from two of our finest authors, M R James in the case of the former, Charles Dickens wrote the book which inspired the latter. The TV series Hammer House Of Horror had some sublime episodes too, I love the episode with the weird Doppelganger, something about it just gets under my skin.

Just me in the living room with all the lights off and all the windows open, curtains blowing wildly from the strong summer evening ocean winds. It was breathtakingly perfect. And at almost 50 years old it is to this day my most watched DVD ( at least once a week-it is literally like a security blanket, my sense of normalcy, everything is alright in the world when Salem's Lot is on). I have 2 copies in the event one wears out. This film holds a special place in my heart and always has. I had it playing the other day and will be playing it again today, especially in tribute to Lance Kerwin.

My wife and I lived in Ferndale, California for a few months in 2015. The town is very much unchanged from the time Salem's Lot was filmed. Old time locals told us that James Mason would go shopping in town, talking to everyone and that he was very nice and approachable.

So glad he did this. There isn’t a lot of videos floating around if the cast and crew of this film talking about their experiences with it.

Fortunately Hooper did do a commentary shortly before he died. He says the movie was pretty enjoyable to work on, he seems to have really liked the actors including David

Got to admire David's versatility as an all-round professional performer. I saw 'Salem's Lot when it was broadcast in two episodes on TV and was genuinely impressed - it still stands as one of the most atmospheric horror movies of its time. Years later I saw him at my local theatre playing (and singing) the role of silent movie slapstick mogul Mack Sennett in a production of Mack and Mabel and was blown away by his performance. What a great talent!

_"They've found us again."_ I would have _loved_ a sequel that followed Ben and Mark on the run from the Marsten vampires.

I'm 53. When I watch this now I'm transformed to an 11 year old glued to the tv terrified and loving it. Still scares me the same. Thank you David. So much.

What remake are people referring to???? I saw the Rob Lowe one and thought it was really good. Nice updated version, really good effects. And i really liked Rutger Hauer in it. They didnt try to compete with that horrific vampire from the original. Thought they did amazing job. Great cast as well, Donald Sutherland was great. Wish David would have spoke of that as I really liked it. What is this other one?????

Thanks Mr. Soul! I loved this film when it first was on TV. I still do. The 1979 version is really the best. I was 10 and remember it like yesterday.
