Absolutely. This is where men and women of the left and right can unite and fight. Democracy is in the balance. Marx would undoubtedly embrace the Conservative defence of bourgeois democracy (as indeed he did, at a time of different priorities for Left and Right), and it is precisely the current chorus of reaction and 'liberal' betrayal against which genuine Liberals, genuine Leftists and genuine Conservatives should rebel.

The 1975 Referendum was actually non binding and advisory only as Parliment didn't hand the power of the decision to the people as they did in 2016 and yet the Non binding Referendum result of 1975 was forced on the people for 45 Years
@Raahiba4 жыл бұрын
I've spent three years being increasingly appalled at all the people who, like me, lost the referendum but won't accept that fact. If Jeremy Corbyn gets elected and opposition MPs who didn't want him as PM start occupying Parliament and manoeuvring him into doing things he doesn't want to do, I confidently predict that those same people will talk loudly and often about how we have democracy in this country and the opposition should accept the result of the vote. I didn't realise until 2016 how few people in the public sphere still have any actual core principles.
@fuckfannyfiddlefart4 жыл бұрын
@@Raahiba I could accept the referendum if: 1. I wasn't disenfranchised (which I was as with other British living in the EU) 2.it was a BINDING referendum. 3. Many of us in 'The Dominions' want to see a return of an independent UK and a reinvigouration of The Commonwealth. That the UK tied itself to the EU in the first place is completely baffling. Reassume your role as the home of the Anglosphere.
@perperson1994 жыл бұрын
Hear hear
@Londonfogey4 жыл бұрын
The move to the EU away from the Dominions/Commonwealth was part of the long twilight of the British Empire - so many politicians felt guilt and shame about Britain's colonial past having witnessed the end of Britain's rule in so many places. I think by the 1960s the younger generation just wanted to forget about it as an irrelevance and instead embrace the Continent where everything was so much more chic and stylish and intellectual than the Anglosphere. That attitude is still very prevalent among the ruling class today, as Dr Starkey points out.

This was amazing. I love Dr. Starkey. I found him on amazon prime presenting history and several hours and several missed errands later... Brilliantly plain spoken. A fantastic teacher.

I saw Starkey at an Oxford event recently. A brilliant man with an utterly forensic attitude to truth and reality.

Brendan, I have only just listened to the first 5 minutes, already I know that this podcast needs sending to ALL MP's and force them to listen to it.

Starkey is utter correct on George the Fifth. George was banging heads together to solve the Irish question. He was right in the thick of it - which led to the Irish Free State of 1922. Liz by contrast has badly let the country down in the middle of this Brexit crisis.

The thing I find most disturbing is that people are surprised by the political class in this country. There has NEVER been a time when they didn't despise their own people. Not once. They are happy for us to die for them in pursuit of their political aims, but I don't class someone who wants to be your buddy when they are getting you slaughtered for a selfish cause of theirs as someone who doesn't despise you. We have to wake up. I said 3 years ago BEFORE the referendum result Parliament would need to be confronted by at least part of the police and armed services to make It back down. I stand by that. State power, particularly when its in the hands of unscrupulous criminals, will not be defeated by voting (which is a laugh in itself) or protests. It has to met by real physical power and the absolute determination that it will be used if resisted. "Parliament" is not Parliament anyway. It has no consent and without that it has no authority. We need to stop looking at it like its some sort of legitimate body which we have to deal with in certain ways. They are now just 650 private individual criminals claiming authority they just don't legally possess. We should kill them just for that affront alone. These are after all the exact same people in many cases (especially those really pushing this agenda) who sent our kids to die in places like Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria to "fight for a democracy" they are blatantly destroying at home. I'm all for the same death and destruction to be visited on them personally by the armed forces WE pay for, not them. We should stop asking for more voting we should demand the army go in, with the police, and direct that they arrest them on the clear understanding that if they do not, or the MP's resist arrest, every pro EU MP will be shot. The ball will be in the police's and MP's court. Then the army should go in and clear out the judiciary. Any pro EU judge would be arrested along with the MP's with the same promise of this is not done. WE then need to start demanding a Nuremberg Tribunal opening up government records on the EU going back to the 1950's to see how the decision to bounce us into the EU were reached, who got paid or promoted (or politically destroyed) to clear the path for the 1972 coup. The sooner its done the better for everyone. We absolutely cannot afford to back down on this one, nor wait forever for a resolution, this is an illegal authority proclaiming they have sole right to do exactly what they want when they want. If it takes killing every single one of them it will be a very cheap price worth the paying, for if we don't the inevitable will follow and that will cost INNOCENT lives in the thousands if not millions.
