It's amazing how much the league grew once he became commissioner. If you watch the league in the 70's then watch the 80's you can see just how much it changed. What a great era of basketball it's been the last 30 to 40 years.

In spite of the controversial changes he made throughout his tenure and the multiple lockouts he caused, don't forget that Stern took over the league when it was in the midst of the cocaine problem the league was having, and expanded the league to what it is today. RIP David Stern

He never said much but there was always a comedic vagueness to the way he answered questions where he could make you feel involved while giving you nothing at all.
