This is such a gem, as it captures a period where David Sylvian really began to push the boundaries of "pop music", collaborating with the supreme talents of Mark Isham, David Torn, John Hassell, Bill Nelson, etc. I don't believe Sylvian had made it over to tour/perform in America yet at this time (circa Secrets Of The Beehive), which makes this performance all the more special. All hail youtube!... and D.S.S. Manafon!

The drum beats and melody are the best part of this song. Its so melodic. Mark Isham is good also, but the beat and sampled "Eastern" singing is trance-like. Fantasitc!

Magico. Doppia data in Milano per il sold out. Questo è tratto da Rai due.

If he did this today he'd be accused of "cultural appropriation" for those ethnic samples, lol.

This is what a musician does as a type of' penance' for having made such great music before (Japan) , then tries to appease the critics and THEMSELVES that their earlier stuff was somehow an aberration or out character.....when actually, THAT'S what defined them to begin with NOT these hopeless forgettable musings.....sad really, beyond belief.

'Hopeless forgettable musings'. I bet your comment is forgotten before this music is. But that's just my opinion and yours of course.
@rachelar3 жыл бұрын
Actually he's right as Sylvian has since said he had to do Japan to give him the tools to do what he did subsequently
