Does David T Walker know about this? He'd be very impressed & very flattered. He's a real sweet,humble guy. Love the video by the way.

David T Walker is such a kind soul. I reached out to him a couple times on Facebook and he responded both times! He is such a gracious person! Not arrogant at all. I told him how much I love his guitar playing and what a role model he is and he took the time to thank me both times!

Really loved this lesson Rick , always loved the gorgeous sound of David T. Walker. Every now and then it sounded like his tuning was just a hair flat which made his embellishments sounds more warm and soulful. Maybe it just the way I'm hearing it. Love the sound.

Yup, rootless voicings are great in a horn band setting. Easier to play and really clean up a cluttered mix. Thanks for the video Rick!

thanks Fatty, yeah ,most of the time I play these rootless for those reasons

I saw an interview where David T Walker mentioned playing with the broad side of his pick instead of the point, that's a small part of how he got that warm "brushy" sound! just a cool extra tip
@TastyGuitarcom5 жыл бұрын
yeah, that definitely helps get that tone!

Great lesson Rick. I love David T's playing. It's tough to get the pinky to quickly and accurately get those hammer ons and pull offs. Beautiful stuff. Never can say good bye instrumental is an all time fav of David's playing.

I was studying Leo Kottke yesterday, some of his middle period work, and by coincidence noticed his finger picking on the lower 3 strings exclusively, establishing the same vibe you are describing on the David T. Walker tutorial. Interesting coincidence. Great insight on your part and generally unknown. Great work. Thanks as always.

Just gotta say, I watch a lot of KZbin channels for lessons and ideas. All of your 'licks' videos are among my favorite - a great way to quickly learn some beautiful playing! I'm still working on last week's Eddie Hazel licks but I can't wait to try these out. Thanks!

thanks Brian, yeah I'm sure it can be hard to keep up with all of them as I'm trying to release 2 times weekly now....was gonna film a new one today, maybe I'll take the day off to let you catch up :)

Hi Rick, I'm new to your channel. But when I saw the title of your video,, I had to stop and check it out. I'm a super-huge ~Larry Carlton ~ fan of 40 years. Knowing that Larry was a chief guitar player for the ~Crusaders~ ,, and ~David T. Walker~ was also,, I've been digging deep into Walkers musical catalogue. And I'm really amazed at the warm-emotive playing style he has, and how very familial it is with Carlton's style! I'm sure you're familiar with Larry Carltons style. I enjoyed the professional production of your video(s)! Thank you! Sonny.

I just got a friend into your tutorials and we had a lot of fun with the cornell Dupree licks - is it possible to have a follow up to the Dupree video. those licks were so cool - we can make a few variations up ourselves but your knowledge is much deeper than ours. keep 'em coming

I may do another one in the future but have a lot of other things to get to first......I would say check out my video on "3 simple steps to create r&b fills" that will give you the tools you need to start creating these on your own

Wow, very interesting. And here was I thinking that John Mayer got most of this kind of subtlety & embellishments from Hendrix. Did DTW always use a pick? Some of the songs he played on would have had quite a pace in them and it would have been quite some discipline to maintain that soft brushing stroke. He was kind of like an art painter, wasn't he? Thanks Rick.
@TastyGuitarcom6 жыл бұрын
not sure if he always used a pick, video I've seen he is using one all the time, and from his tone on stuff I would think he is not playing finger style but can't be certain....the soft brush stroke kinda thing is great for the slower stuff but yeah it wouldn't keep up on the faster stuff, his uptempo funk rhythm chops are equally sublime
@tylerj58706 жыл бұрын
He uses the opposite end of the pick. That's how he can do the slow brush easier
