David Warner was and will always be the ultimate character actor. He could steal a scene without batting an eye lid. I had the privilege of meeting him a few years ago. He was a true gent, frail and a little deaf.. But his recall was immense and he practically confirmed that a meeting between a member of my family and Gregory Peck and Lee Remick. Then he signed my copy of The Omen.. RIP David.. A true actor and gentleman.

ashley wetherall, I've noticed David's deafness in his 70's. Too bad he didn't get a hearing aid,; they're discreet and high quality. If I'd been his friend, I would have tried to persuade David to get a hearing aid so he wouldn't have to struggle to hear people. It's very interesting the impact David had on his female fans. I developed a huge crush on him in Time After Time because he gave the character humane moments in a touching way that only David could do. David was magic on screen. ❤

In 1970 David fell from a balcony in Rome and broke both his feet... apparently tests later revealed he suffered from vertigo due to a chemical imbalance....

June 8, 2024 -- I just learned today, by chance, of David Warner's passing... almost two years ago, which makes me so sad. He'd always been such an extraordinary actor since the glorious days of the British 'Free Cinema'. (Personally became a fan by discovering him in "Morgan, a Suitable Case for Treatment" on TV, in 1972, at age 16, plus, only days later -- the very same week -- in Peckinpah's "Cable Hogue"!). And, by the way, the present, extremely compelling interview turns out to be possibly one of the most touching and insightful testimonies ever about 'Uncle Sam', both as a man and as a director. Loyalty is all, indeed. The last times I remember David in a film was in Cameron's blockbuster "Titanic", and as Kenneth Branagh's father in that remarkable Swedish detective series titled "Wallander". Do Rest In Peace. 🙏🏻🙏🏽🙏

I would LOVE to read David's "memoires". I had fun meeting him in person back on October 29, 2010 at a Star Trek convention in Orlando, FL. I had rented a car, and drove myself 4 ½ hours to Orlando just for him. I didn't care about meeting anyone else. I had made a friendship bracelet for him, which he actually let me put on him! He also autographed a photo of himself in the movie, "Time After Time," (first movie I ever saw him in), and we also took a picture together... I had my hair dyed red at the time. lol Gosh, he looked so handsome! And SO TALL! Here I was, standing next to a legend!! My knees were so weak!😆 I was probably annoying and fangirling (even though I was trying hard not to). But he was so sweet, and so kind. 🥰 It was all I could do to not squish-hug him! lol

Emunah, what a wonderful story. I would drive 4+ hours to meet David again too. He looked strikingly handsome in 2001 and he towered over me. It was amazing to be in the presence of this magnificently talented man - just the 2 of us - and he was so generous with his time. I too wanted to give him a hug and tell him that he has more admirers than he thinks.

David is such a sweet, humble man and extremely talented. Beautiful voice too. I met him while he was doing a Broadway play (Major Barbara) in 2001 and he was utterly adorable, gentlemanly, and genuinely wanted to know what I thought of the play. He was so easy to chat with and I had him all to myself on 43rd Street in New York for several minutes!❤

The Ballad of Cable Hogue was the first movie of a double feature at the drive-in that I saw, I was 16 and a newly minted driver. I don't remember the other movie. I was David part of a preacher that had suspect moral core and center. A very very good actor those of you that got to meet and talk to him are the lucky ones.

This is a lot different than other actor comments about Sam in this series. No psychological opinions or speculations about thing's he didn't witness or experience. A good friend.

Ballad of Cable Hoage (sp self induced) more and more is a classic. People working together reminds one of the days when major studios had the same character actors and the leads, where in search of, by the studios, for hits. almost like music which is the same in a lot of ways. for people to do that and enjoy it and want to come back and us wanting to see whatever they came up with is the nirvanna that studios reach for on an hourly bases. The collaboration and friendship of making a film is so hit or miss and the 1st runs that bomb and end up classics are testaments to an art that touches.

Great actor, completely understated. He is like all great English actors it wasn’t about the glitz and the glamour it was all about being grateful for the work

I had the pleasure of working with David on League of Gentlemen [David conjures into life a “Humunculous”..!]He was fabulous and great fun.And of course we were all such fanboys…as you can imagine…Cross of Iron was a real cult film for me and my crew of cinema obsessives at art school.I remember we watched it twice as you could back in the day.And many times since!Lovely man and so humble and he loved the Gents!

Christopher Eccleston said David Warner should have played Doctor Who and I agree. He’d have been the perfect 5th Doctor after Tom Baker, not soft lad Peter Davison.

I looked up this interview to see what Warner was like in person after seeing him playing Captain James Sawyer in the Hornblower series. I think he's a pretty good actor because, looks aside, there is no trace of Sawyer in this interview - a role which admirably suited his weathered appearance (excellent casting!!!).I say this because some actors only ever play themselves.Having seen interviews with Tom Baker, it is obvious that he played himself during his 10 year tenure as the fourth doctor.
