I've also heard that "Mr. Blue Sky" was Jeff Lynne's attempt to expand the McCartney bridge section of "A Day in the Life" into a full song. One small point of comparison: the panting breath in "Mr. Blue Sky" after the line "running down the avenue" and the panting breath in "A Day in the Life" after the line "I noticed I was late".

There was a very popular rock singer in Brazil, Raul Seixas. One of his biggest hits, "Maluco Beleza", is very interesting. He took the chord progression from the chorus of John Lennon's Imagine, (You may say I'm a dreamer...) cut the progression in half, put the second half before the first half, sped it down and made his chorus (Vou ficar ah, ficar com certeza....) Very hard to notice but when you hear it, you can't unhear it. Very clever, indeed.

Noel Gallagher has zero right to complain about copyright, especially on such a common chord progression. Does he not remember the intro to "Don’t Look Back In Anger," which is a blatant lifting of Imagine by John Lennon? This is all so silly. Another example is when Radiohead were surprised when they got sued by the Hollies for “Creep" when stealing/borrowing from "The Air That I Breathe." The beat, bass line, chord progression used throughout, and the verse melody was used in the bridge of Creep. and then they tried to turn around and sue Lana Del Rey for using the chord progression alone, with her song, "Get Free." The saga continues...

I'm sure a lot of us found our way to David's channel after hearing mashups and medleys like "4 Chords" by Axis of Awesome, all of which exploit songs having passages with similar chords. A good mashup artist can blend songs together to the point where they feel like they were written that way. My favorite is "Intergalactic Spell" by The White Panda, which sets The Beastie Boys' lyrics against music by Alphabeat, but a mashup that Beatles fans in particular might appreciate is "Let It Be Liebe.Fertig" by DJ Schmolli, which has the Beatles music we all know and love supporting vocals from a Euro pop band most of us have never heard of.

It's one of those cases where you have listened to these songs over and over again and never notice the similarity but when it's pointed out you can't unhear it. Especially, the inversion with "Wonderwall" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" was able to show to me that not only melodies but chord progression instrumentalized (specified rhythm) are able to gain an orginal status in the sense of copyright. Where the very first example Beatles/ELO is strikingly chosen, as it shows that the chord progression alone cannot guarantee ... which makes me assume some mysterious relationship between rhythm and harmonies.
