👍👍👍👍👍THANK YOU, David! Please continue to show & teach about how easy and vulnerable security can be compromised; its part of Layer8 hardening! Weapons can be both destructive & defensive. If no body shout it loudly enough for more to learn about it - what's the purpose of learning all this? Burying our heads like the ostrich or soar like the eagles. Its all up to us. Thank you once again!

-Very good to see professors David and John Hammond, in this video, great content...!!! -Look, the teachers are right and I agree 100%. -Offense defense is a military technique that Israel used a lot in the wars it was and was victorious and now uses in Cyber War. -How about the need to know both Blue and Red Teams...? -I am a Network Engineer with CCNA and JNCIA (Now preparing for LPIC-1 and Linux Foundation Engineer) Cisco itself has already said where the career of network engineer goes: Today there is CCNa Base, which is the base of networks, and only two specialization certifications: Devnet (Automation of networks) and DevOp which is 90% (Cyber security), in short you have network as a skill base or you will specialize in network automation or in network Cyber Security. -Ok so why learn Pentest...? -If you're not going to learn to program in Python and Ansible, then there's security. -Remembering that in the same way that we study to make our systems work, there are numerous other basic skills and IT professionals with knowledge totally different from ours and it is this knowledge that they will use against us, no matter how much you know the technology that works as Cisco, Juniper whatever, but it was you who invented the equipment, do you know if it has any flaws that can be exploited...? -Who is Blue Team has to mitigate and defend against Black Hats (As if there were Gray or White Hats...LOL), and if you don't know how to do that and your network is invaded by something that didn't make your career over. -How can you be effective against an attacker who studies only ways to find faults in your system or systems in your topology...? -And so we're not talking about script kid, we're talking about highly trained personnel with government support (SolarWinds, Microsoft, Colonial, Kaseya, and more in less than a year), attacking civilian companies where civilian professionals will have to defend the company. -Ok if this is not justification to understand at least the basis of Pentest practices even to know your enemy I don't know what it can be anymore. -What I've seen since SolarWinds is that Black Hats are attacking the service providers that companies use. like SolarWinds, Microsoft, and trying to find an exploit on them in order to break into their entire client network. -Thanks for the knowledge professors David and John...!!!

@Derty_the_grower3 жыл бұрын
MIT, Stanford. College degrees aren't much, you're better with IT certs, and such to prove you know a certain avenue of infosec. You cannot master it all, you have to get 1 good avenue that is highly requested by network admins

Question: What is better? Playing CTFs (like picoctf) OR doing Machines (like hackthebox)
@GeorgeWulfers_883 жыл бұрын
I think picoCTF has some very basic ones like reading files, so if you are a beginner maybe pico would be best for you. As you progress their boxes do get harder and increase in complexity. HackTheBox has more advanced boxes (even the easy ones are pretty hard) but it's all up to you to decide where you want to go. TryHackMe is similar to HackTheBox and they have explanations and tell you what to do next so it is more beginner friendly.

It's weird how all these companies see what's going on but very few learn from other's mistakes. For every Kaseya or Colonial, etc... there are thousands of other organizations who don't take from the root of the exposed issue (flawed code review / lack of proper penetration testing) and use it to revise / improve their internal processes. It's like "Whew, glad that wasn't us!" ...until it is
