Lyrics
Heaven loves ya, the clouds part for ya
Nothing stands in your way
When you're a boy
Clothes always fit ya, life is a pop of the cherry
When you're a boy
When you're a boy, you can wear a uniform
When you're a boy, other boys check you out
You get a girl, these are your favorite things
When you're a boy
Boys, boys
Boys keep swinging
Boys always work it out
Uncage the colors, unfurl the flag
Luck just kissed you hello
When you're a boy
They'll never clone you, you are always first on the line
When you're a boy
When you're a boy, you can buy a home of your own
When you're a boy, learn to drive and everything
You'll get your share
When you're a boy
Boys, boys
Boys keep swinging
Boys always work it out
About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

I was a huge Bowie fan throughout the '70s, and really got a kick out of his trilogy...this album didn't have the consistent genius of 'Low' or 'Heroes', but it certainly had its moments...I still can't believe that the Man who Sold the World was a mere mortal after all...

It surprised me how much of a good actor he was. As the concept of a musician trying to act always has me think twice, regardless if they were as talented as Bowie, musicians like Billie Eilish or Doja Cat, or an untalented hack like Cardi B (who fucking can’t fucking act or fucking do anything for fucking shit!). It always has me go “hold up, can you actually act or are you being a sellout?”

@@d1jezek Marlene Dietrich. He'd done a film "with" her the year before in 1978, her last, called Just A Gigolo. Unfortunately it wasn't very good. She and Bowie had to shoot their one scene together in separate places because she was too old and weak to travel to Berlin. Her parts were shot in Paris, where she lived. Dietrich had always fascinated him. Bowie lifted his pose that's on the cover of Hunky Dory from a book of 1930s photos of her.

All I recall is the elderly, graceful lady had been active in the Secret Service in WW2, parachuted into France with the Resistance, and never told anyone afterwards what she'd done. @@Garylpool1 Carlos could drum ok. Bowie played guitar. The drummer - well, even Eno thought it wasn't very good, so Tony Vosconti replaced his bass line. It was more Eno's idea - his oblique strategy stuff generated from written instructions on cards. Belew did several passes on the guitar solo, as they wouldn't let him hear the track before he recorded. I imagine it got better, so they picked and chose.

The SNL has something pretty shocking if you watch the original video. You have to look close! The version you saw probably had that cut out, not the lyrics. Look close at the crotch area in the original video. I didn't catch it when it originally aired, but years later noticed it. It flashes on and off pretty quick.

Went to his memorial @ their apt downtown for a week. amazing photographs I did of the entire week. It wwas like a concert for him every night outsoide and in a few clubs doiwn there on LES. I was really impressed with this song when it was a hit. So much so, that one day, when I came home from school, I went upstairs, opened the door, and saw my two younger sisters strumming badminton rackets and chanting: boys - boys - boys keep swinging, boys keep swinging - boys - boys - boys keep swinging, boys keep swinging - boys - boys - ...

This is effin brilliant. Pure art the way David knows best. In fact the combo of visuals singing lyrics and iconography are dop drawer Bowie. If you don't like it it's probably because you are the little old bewildered lady at the end. But Bowie offers you a pitying old lady kiss. Brilliant 👏

He is just all Bowie here, I love the dance. His later years were fantastic but this is so raw and not very commercialized, early Bowie is everything.

I used to tape all the Rockworld shows and they showed three videos from Lodger. We played this over and over. This song gave me my marching orders. Come on now, swivelers!

Lyrics: Heaven loves ya The clouds part for ya Nothing stands in your way When you're a boy Clothes always fit ya Life is a pop of the cherry When you're a boy When you're a boy You can wear a uniform When you're a boy Other boys check you out You get a girl These are your favourite things When you're a boy Boys Boys Boys keep swinging Boys always work it out Uncage the colours Unfurl the flag Luck just kissed you hello When you're a boy They'll never clone ya You're always first on the line When you're a boy When you're a boy You can buy a home of your own When you're a boy Learn to drive and everything You'll get your share When you're a boy Boys Boys Boys keep swinging Boys always work it out

What's so wonderfully hilarious about the lyrics is the way that he implies that just being 'a boy' has such queer connotations - "other boys check you out" etc. Love that line: "learn to drive and everything.. xx 🤣
