I also saw him. I don't remember how many times. One time, I waited backstage for him to show up, He did. A car dropped him off and he walked right by me, right in front of me. I could have touched him, but I felt I couldn't do it. I couldn't invade his space. He was too magical, too special. Now he is gone. I still can't believe it.

My brother singing this to us in the 70s, my mother my dog and clowns while he pointed at his 3 siblings, our mum and the dog. Still makes me smile today. He was a big Bowie fan and used to go out dressed ( with the zig zag on his face) as Aladdin Sane. Dad couldn’t cope with that and banned all Bowie records from the house. I used to listen to him in secret on headphones on albums my brother had doctored to show a different label. My brother died in 1999 and listening to Bowie now brings back so many great memories. Both of my brother and the wonderful music of Bowie.

@@lefkytheshin people would usually consider original the things that they don't know the inspiration to and that satisfies their individual quality standards. You believe someone who is inspired by other artists is not artist enough? Don't you think Bowie had known any artists he could learn a thing or two from? That's just not a reasonable point of view buddy, and will only prevent you from knowing real good contemporary art. If you want an example of something that seems pretty damn original, go watch/listen to eusexua. Everyone loves nostalgia, and you can be sure the people that are "not original" are the ones who love the past as much as you seem to do. They don't adapt with new findings cause they ignore them. x

Bowie wrote the song as a parody of Frank Sinatra's "My Way". Bowie has labeled the song "a sensitive young girl's reaction to the media" and added, "I think she finds herself disappointed with reality... that although she's living in the doldrums of reality, she's being told that there's a far greater life somewhere, and she's bitterly disappointed that she doesn't have access to it." The lyrics also contain imagery suggesting the futility of man's existence, a topic Bowie used frequently on his early albums

it’s funny how Ziggy Stardust was both a blessing a curse It’s the character David played that everyone knew and loved the most and it’s what you think when someone says think of David Bowie but it also started his downfall into cocaine. He filmed a man fell down to earth while high and didn’t even remember filming it he also felt he never felt like himself again and everywhere he goes it’s Ziggy talking and not David

Lyrics :) It's a God-awful small affair To the girl with the mousy hair But her mummy is yelling, "No" And her daddy has told her to go But her friend is nowhere to be seen Now she walks through her sunken dream To the seat with the clearest view And she's hooked to the silver screen But the film is a saddening bore For she's lived it ten times or more She could spit in the eyes of fools As they ask her to focus on Sailors fighting in the dance hall Oh man, look at those cavemen go It's the freakiest show Take a look at the lawman Beating up the wrong guy Oh man, wonder if he'll ever know He's in the best selling show Is there life on Mars? It's on America's tortured brow That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow Now the workers have struck for fame 'Cause Lennon's on sale again See the mice in their million hordes From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads Rule Britannia is out of bounds To my mother, my dog, and clowns But the film is a saddening bore 'Cause I wrote it ten times or more It's about to be writ again As I ask you to focus on Sailors fighting in the dance hall Oh man, look at those cavemen go It's the freakiest show Take a look at the lawman Beating up the wrong guy Oh man, wonder if he'll ever know He's in the best selling show Is there life on Mars?

Ive been a Bowiefile since about '79. Finally got the see him live at the US festival 1983 in Devore CA. As Bowie aged his voice changed from this childlike quality to a more bass tone. By 83 he had a much deeper base tone voice from his early years. This was "Serious Moonlight" tour. When he sat down at the piano to do "Life on Mars" he somehow used his young childlike voice. Absolute genius. When he toured for Glass Spider he hired Peter Frampton because Frampton was not getting a lot of work. When they sang "Sons of the Silent Age" Bowie sang the bass and Frampton sang the falsetto. Perfect. Absolute perfection.

What a shot, what an edit! It almost feels like you can caress his face, which I've never seen so close up. This is the perfection, absolutely. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

I never used to listen to David Bowie, although I loved him in the Labyrinth. My uncle always plays songs like this and recently I have met up with him and he played this song and I just remembered how much I LOVED IT. Playing it on repeat ❤️

My all-time favorite Bowie song. When I told my friends that, after he died, they were stunned, thinking I'd favor Jean Genie, or Fame, or something. "Life On Mars" is one of those songs that never topped the charts, but found its way to the top of mine, early on, and set the tone for the rest of my Bowie fandom.
