I had a foundationless frame that completely feel off on a hot day (too heavy with honey), and I'm a beginner. I was so worried (and honey was going everywhere) that I just put the empty frame back where it was - close to the middle - and then kind of slipped the broken honeycomb back in place. I wished i had attached with rubber bands but 5 days later I did another check it was attached to the top of the frame as per usual as if nothing was ever wrong! Bees are incredible!

Thank you for this video!! I needed this exact thing because I had an issue installing a package and they made a bunch of comb in the empty/feeder top box.

I needed this demonstration . There are two double deep hives in my yard that had absconded however ; they both are completely full with wild bees that had swarmed and set up house keeping . Now I need to try to separate them out . You have provided me with an idea of how to go about it . Thanks !!

Finally! Thank you, Thank you for this video. I made a huge mistake starting my hive and have a bigger mess than this on the hive lid. I am now prepared to remove rogue comb.

Linda I just did exactly this!!! My girls made beautiful comb on the lid of the swarm trap because I didn’t put in enough frames and now all they’ve drawn out is on the lid of the swarm trap. Now I have to figure out how to fix it.. hence watching this video 😆

Hi David, I'm looking to get started as a new bee keeper. I'm currently living in a suburd of south London here in the UK. I found your channel sometime ago and watch with interest how you manage your bees. I hope that I can do the same. Keep posting these great and very informative videos for up coming ee keepers like me ... a BIG thumbs up

Thanks for this tip! We caught two swarms this year and in the confusion Yes we left two frames out . They attached them to the queen excluder .. now I have more confidence in getting messy

Thank you I made the same mistake. I am a first year beekeeper in Canton and tried releasing my package with frames out and forgot to put them back in as it was raining that day.

Yup, bees love space to build comb.

Would it not be beneficial to rubber band this comb back into an empty frame to save all the work the bees did. Do you ever do this?

Hey David, would love your input on cleaning live hives? Have you ever tried cleaning up a hive with bees in it? My hive has gotten really dirty on two sides and was wondering what was safe. I was thinking just water and dish soap, keeping the towel pretty dry. Any ideas?

Hey! Great video! I'm a brand new beekeeper and I actually had to clean up my hive just like you did and put some more frames in. On the frames that were already in, the bees built the comb a little thick, so when I put the new frames in, things seemed to be a little crowded and bunched together. Will the bees remove some of the thicker comb to make room to work on the new frames? Thank you!

I'm afraid not.

When I tried this after removing an in hive feeder and the bees got VERY mad at me. I closed the hive to return another day. When i did i realized i never relaced the feeder with a frame. Then when i tried to add the frame they had taken up the space. While attempting to remove the excess comb the got too mad to work with. I think i need to use the smoker more.

accidentally messed up installing wax starter sheets and they all warped and slid down. Not very excited about rectifying my laziness 2 weeks late xD
@beek4 ай бұрын
Did you use wires and or pins?
@SushikiIIer4 ай бұрын
@@beek Problem was i didnt really know what i was doing and made the asumption it was just held by the wire. I rewiered old frames after cleaning but im dumb so didnt understand groove/groove frames shouldnt have wire xD. I could have saved myself if i melted some wax into the top channel holding the foundation but didnt. They all sagged down like an "s" pretty much immediatley and the bees are defenitly gluing things togeather. at least on the bright side it wasnt a package so ill still have 5 good frames from the nuc haha.
@SushikiIIer4 ай бұрын
@@beek Ended up worrying myself for nothing. Bees did their job better than i did mine & only had 1 frame that glued itself to a neighbor. Love your videos; they are a tramendously helpful resource.
