Thanks for showing the closing of the rooftop tent. Other people making videos dont show what it s like closing it. It is rather involved. Deploying it is easy lol

Oh! Catching a new video from the LEGEND, the man, Dave Canterbury in the first 10 minutes, What a great feeling... This guy is the GOAT and I love it when he gets a bit silly in his vids from time to time, makes me laugh so hard, but the knowledge one can acquire just watching his vast catalog, is mind boggling. Hailing from Iran, thanks for what you've done, changed my life❤️❤️

One thing you have to pay attention to is polarization. The Buddy pole is vertical, the Sloper or a Dipole is horizontal. Most HF communications are horizontally polarized. The exception is HF mobiles are vertically polarized. That plays into it. Also every antenna is simply tuned for ONE frequency as you move up or down from that resonant frequency you loose efficiency and your SWR goes up. This is where an antenna tuner is helpful. Also the distance between the ground and the antenna is important because that space is electrically part of the antenna known as capacitive reactance that plays into the antenna efficiency formula. KC4PTH.

Dave thank you for all you have Taught me and all you are going to keep teaching thank you so much I wouldn’t be able to do half of the things I can do if it weren’t for learning from your channel again thank you sir

Glad you are having fun with your setup. Once you get used to tweaking the antennas you will be amazed at how many people you will be able to talk to. Heck, plan a trip and let everyone know. You think a POTA Pileup is bad. Try a KZbin pileup. The advantage is people will be able to hear their transmissions. 73!! de KE5ES

Ok, here is what happened with the buddy pole. It radiates parallel to the ground. So reflection off the Ionosphere is minimal. However, the wire radiates in a large vertical doughnut shaped pattern. You have a lot of signal bouncing off the ionosphere. So of course you could communicate better at long distances. Also, the wire has a lot more antenna up in the air. The buddy pole only has the tip up in the air. Most of the buddy pole is lower to the ground.

The EMCOMM III portable is my go to antenna. I usually run out as a sloper as well due to ease of deployment. Don't get hung up about having the matching box suspended. I've run it plenty of times with the box just sitting on the ground. Food for thought.

Hi Dave - another ham newbie here - am wondering how these two antenna differ from the survival antenna you looked at a few weeks ago - just different bands, or are there other differences too? Thanks!
@nimroddiaries_3 жыл бұрын
One is a vertical with coil to change frequency but can be set up nearly everywhere; the wire is longer, needs a high point to hang but nothing to change frequency. That's a very basic comparison. Search the buddipole and the emcomm3. Both are well liked.

I been looking for someone to test different antenna/radio setups. Come to the next ham club meeting. I would love to have someone that is interested in experimenting in "moble/camp" radios and how to cover an area (repeaters, NVIS and such).

Take a look at the Chameleon LEFS, I've had good success with it and my 705, it doesn't need a tuner since it's a 49:1. I could probably lend you mine if you wanted to field trial it fist, let me know!

Nice vid Dave put that buddipole on eBay it works the best on eBay. It will NEVER ever beat a long wire ask me how I know Twice. It’s a compromise antenna that’s why you had hardly any contacts at the start.
