I’ve been watching Dave teach about the wilderness ever since I was 10 when he was on dual survival 13 years ago. I’m 23 years old now and still learning. Thanks Dave. You don’t know how much you mean to us all 🤘🏼

I love these small game hunting/cooking/camping videos, Dave. Years ago my father, friends, and I would do a Sept "squirrel" camp every year. This brings back those fond memories. Thanks.

I'd love a series on what local wild life we can harvest without a permit, and especially how to prep them! A straight to simple what's what would help my skills a ton. I've never thought about crow, but I wouldn't look away from it if I was ever hungry now!

I never pass on crows, my labs like to retrieve them just as much as ducks or pheasants. I either brine the crow meat or marinade them in pineapple juice. They're pretty good either way.

Nice video Dave. When I was much younger my friends and I would hike up over the mountain behind my house and just for fun see how long we could live off the land. We went 18 days before we just got bored. We probably could have stayed there until it got to cold. Plenty of game and fish. Wow that was 40+ years ago.

Bet that would pair well with the simple dinner I just made: 1 can of re-fried beans, 2 cups water, 2 teaspoons of chicken broth powder, 1 handful of frozen mixed veggies, 2 handfuls of elbow macaroni noodles, 2 pinches of sea salt, splash of olive oil, splash of apple cider vinegar. Heat re-fried beans, frozen veggies, oil, and vinegar in pot. Add the 2 cups of water, and bring to boil. Add the broth powder, sea salt, macaroni noodles, and whisk so the re-fried beans dissolve, and broth powder mixes. Remove from heat, and let stand for 10-15 minutes until noodles are cooked. Really good meal. You could easily add your choice of meat, and/or an egg or two, letting the egg cook poached style. Alternatively, the frozen mixed veggies could be replaced with canned mixed veggies.

Hey, if want them crows breast to really knock your socks off, simmer 'em in beef broth over a low low flame til you can easily slide a fork in them, then salt and pepper, flour and pan fry real quick. Absolutely right. They are scared. I have eaten a lot of small woodland creatures. It is mainly the preparation that makes them good or not. I strain and save all my grease in a large mason jar. Then it handles like crisco. Just melt a heaping scoop and you're good to go.

Always better to use a grill made for the purpose. The old (and new for that matter) fridge and stove shelves are plated with metals that are bad to consume. Whether breathing vapors from getting hot in the fire or eating from cooking directly on them you are ingesting cadmium and chromium as well as other alloys.

I was always under the impression that carrion in general were possibly unsafe to eat because of certain diseases they may carry due to what they eat. Crows especially were always sort of a bad juju thing to me, and I don't know why, perhaps just a cultural thing. As someone who eats crow and is living the outdoorsman life style, Dave, can you tell me your thoughts on this?

Crows are some of the most intelligent creatures of the eastern forest. I've never met a man who's found a crow's nest while it was still being used. They always leave the nest discreetly and gather at another location before beginning the day's scavenging run.

Grew up on a farm. Listen to them crow caws all day and they're really intelligent pack animals. Never tried to eat one of them, although have tried dove and it was great. The breast feathers that shimmer like a rainbow are great for tying fuzzy black trout flies. Dipped in the solution that makes them float, feiend used to sell them for $2-5 ea. Said that everything hits on them including Bass. Crow i woud think has ro be better than a possum. Ate one of those in a eat it or starve situation boiled and nope. Nasty big rat. Maybe fries is better. Heard that raccoon is best BBQ on a grate.
