highly recommend their live album "98.12.28 Otokachi No Wakare". It's the highest ranked live album on RYM and is a spiritual experience to say the least. Also features a live version if this song which is rated a perfect 10 on a few websites.

I know people are recommending 98.12.28, but you HAVE to listen to their last three studio albums (Long Season is one of them). Maybe not react worthy but you need the context of their previous work in order to fully appreciate 98.12.28 (probably the best album of all time).

very cool guitar solo approaching the end of this song; the main reason i prefer the studio version over the live version. the solo is the glue that brings everything together. if the studio version incorporated the live version's panning drums somewhere it'd be perfect in my books.

THIS MAN HEARD ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITES LETS FUCKIN GOOO Additionally, I would SEVERELY recommend the 98.12.28 Live version of this track. The live rendition of this track is one of my contenders for best song of all time.

100% agreed, I honestly don’t think I’ve heard a piece of music that hits me emotionally as hard as live long season does

I remember listening to this for the first time and it just didn’t grab me, I skipped it within 4 minutes. Some time later I was on a long drive home from work, it was early morning, right after night shift. Long Season was still in my liked playlist because that’s where I typically put song recommendations. I don’t know what changed, but everything just clicked. The music fit so well with the early morning fog, and the sun was shining through the mist, the experience felt so ethereal. Now I love Fishmans. 空中キャンプ or Aerial Camp in English is a very nice album by them, I recommend that one. Has one of my favourite tracks Baby Blue, on it.

Long Season is amazing. I felt the same way as you man the song does not feel like nearly forty minutes. Every instrument is so infectious and dreamy it feels like you’re in Atlantis or some far away planet or something. And the vocals are something to behold as well, a shame that Fishmans’ lead singer Shinji Sato passed away shortly after their final couple albums, his voice adds so much magic to the music. Anyways dope to see you dive into more acclaimed classics such as this. I know you’re taking a break man but take as long as you wish and come back feeling better than ever. We’ll be waiting!

Fun fact: that one whistling melody in there around the 22:35 mark is a callback to the shorter single they released prior called "SEASON". It makes me think of someone walking through the woods remembering that song and whistling along to their memory of the track

This is bliss... This whole album... Will edit comment as soon as I finish watching😶... The live version of this song is the highest rated song on RYM btw... Do check out live version too if u plan to revisit this song Or album... Edit: loved the reaction, it reminded me reaction of loveless by Brad taste in music; not as enjoyable as loveless one imo, but still I love it... Probably because the whole piece was digested slowly slowly and nothing much was said and the music was speaking for itself... Yup really enjoyed it... All the best for the break u are taking...

The section at like 5:30 mark in the video... In the version u are listening has an ambient sense with water droplet things and all... But the live version has features like dozens and dozens of sounds of chimes, cymbals and weird ambient sounds... For me the original one sounds more realistic in case of effects and all the stuffs... And live version has instrumental depth increased to 100 times... Both the versions are personally near a 10 for me... I love them

Thought the same thing re Brad loveless. Makes me happy seeing other people like good music that I know (relatively) few people listen to.

Another similar “piece” like this, also in the Japanese psych genre is Vision Creation Newsun by Boredoms. It’s a bit more raw and gripping, filled with guitar distortion but ultimately a very satisfying listen. Would definitely recommend.
