The drummer comes in on second beat, off of 4/4. This is the exact same drum pattern of the song (There She Goes, by the LA's in 1990). Same chord progression, with alternative drum pattern, to avoid plagiarism. I like the foundation and soul of this song, for it is simple, with a great hook. The foundation of the sound is based on quirky lyrics, with a simple progression, taken from others. That part I do not like. Music is subjective, you are the judge & jury.

@@jeffmurdock8321 Thanks, I have been a drummer for over 30 years. What is interesting, is that the drummer on this song varies the pattern, however the downbeat is exactly same as the "La's. Water Underground is a good song, excellent hook.

@@adamlasko315 I'm terrible at drumming and understanding time signatures. LOL But I heard The La's in this song just by natural feel. But you know the technicalities of "why" it feels that way, which is cool.

It works great with the "feel" because the drum pattern and the melodic structure are in sync. Which reinforces the back-beat, which is the secret to great rock songs.
