Each time the next song plays, I always think 'Oh yeah, THIS is the best song on the album'. Then the next song plays and I think the same thing again.

I played this album many times when I was in the university .As a sculpture student, I always worked late at night alone in a studio there. It's like I was in another world. The music was loud but it seemed so quiet at the same time. A loud whisper in the vast space. Sometimes people there came to see me, they mostly loved the music. One time, my friend came in, standing there quietly for a moment and then he asked me " What kind of music is this?". I had no idea what it's called at the time and said "I don't know". He stayed there with me for a while. I really miss that time. (Sorry for my English though :))

1. Myth (0:00) Drifting in and out See the road you're on You came rolling down the cheek You say just what you need And in between It's never as it seems Help me to name it Help me to name it If you built yourself a myth You'd know just what to give What comes after this Momentary bliss The consequence Of what you do to me Help me to name it Help me to name it Found yourself in a new direction Arrows falling from the sun Can you come? Would they come to breach you? Let you know you're not the only one... You can't keep hangin' on To all that's dead and gone If you built yourself a myth You'd know just what to give Do you lie? Oh, let the ashes fly Help me to name it Help me to name it 2. Wild (4:17) My mother said to me That I would get in trouble Our father won't come home 'Cause he is seeing double... Out in the endless green Your eyes are so misleading That's when your car pulls upIts hood is black and gleaming And in a while You start to smile The Earth is wild You've got no time Wild in our ways What we are making Heartless to say: Go on pretending Wild in our ways What we are making Heartless to say: You go, go on pretending... One chance to fall behind The lines that would not let you Can I believe in how The past is what will catch you? And in a while You start to smile The Earth is wild You've got no time Wild in our ways What we are making Heartless to say: Go on pretending Wild in our ways What we are making Heartless to say: We go, go on pretending Wild in our ways Go on pretending 3. Lazuli (9:17) In the blue of this life Where it ends in the night When you couldn't see You would come for me Wonder eyes, motion high And we don't dare slip on by Make us suffer, like no other There's nothing like lapis lazuli Let it go, back to me Like no other you can't be replaced (x7) Like no other you can't be replaced (There's nothing like lapis lazuli) (x6) 4. Other People (14:19) So you thought it would happen Good love, goodbye I know where no one can reach you No, I don't mind, It's your world, why would you fake it? These days go by As you turn around-ow-ow-ow Other people want to keep in touch Something happens and it's not enough Never thought that it would mean so much Other people want to keep in touch Heaven won't keep us together Right place at the wrong time It takes all kinds of weather Distant new skies Somewhere no one can reach us These days go by As you turn around-ow-ow-ow Other people want to keep in touch Something happens and it's not enough Never thought that it would mean so much Other people want to keep in touch Was it ever quite enough? (x5) 5. The Hours (18:44) Can I wait the hours 'Til you find me? Climb up to the tower So that you could see... Violence in the flowers Where they found you Can I wait the hours? Would it be untrue? Climb up to the tower So that you can see All across the hours Frightened eyes Looking back at me Change your mind Don't care about me Frightened eyes Looking back at me Change your mind Don't leave without me Frightened eyes... Made in your reflection So that you could feel Mad in your intentions Fear it isn't real All the recollections Spinning in a field Left in your possession 'Til it isn't real You say, "It isn't real" Frightened eyes Looking back at me Change your mind Don't care about me Frightened eyes Looking back at me Change your mind Don't leave without me Frightened eyes Deeper than you and me It's farther than you could see It's too much to ask? Tell me It's all in a glance, you'll seeIt's deeper than you and me (Now you're gone) It's all in a glance, you'll see (Don't care about me) It's farther than we could be It's deeper than you and me (Don't care about me) Frightened eyes 6. Troublemaker (22:55) Like a hand, you reached out to me The thunder rolls in with the dark Tiny fingers on the edges Watch it unravel, pulling everything apart... In the night, we stay together The walls are shaking in their skin Does it become you, troublemaker? Watch them unravel you, pulling everything apart Someday, out of the blue, it will find you Always, always a face to remind me Someone like you (x3)... You watch the shape these things are taking Do you cry out in your sleep? Does it become you when you're under? Your heart is racing, you're taking everything too hard When you walk away You show me how Come pull me under Someday, out of the blue, it will find you Always, always a face to remind me Someone like you (x3) Someday, out of the blue, it will find you Always, always a face to remind you 7. New Year (27:51) All I wanted comes in colors Vanish everyday I keep these promises, these promises Stranger things will come before you Always out of the way We keep these promises, these promises Can you call it? See it coming? Just enough to tell a story 'bout a Portrait of a young girl waiting For a new year... All you ever wanted Is it getting away? Visions of a feeling The footsteps at bay You were getting stronger Memories again Now you're open wider It's better this way All I wanted comes in colors Vanish everyday I keep these promises, these promises Stranger things will come before you Always out of the way We keep these promises, these promises Won't you write a letter On the page in your own way Write it in a letter On the page, it's your own way... You were getting wiser It's better this way Faces in the mirror Memories again Now look to a feeling It's lighter than breath All you ever wanted Is it getting away? Can you call it? See it coming? Just enough to tell a story 'bout a Portrait of a young girl waiting For the ending of an era Can you call it? See it coming? Just enough to tell a story 'bout a Portrait of a young girl waiting For the new year 8. Wishes (33:17) The roses on the lawn Don't know wich side you're on In a daze, it will change Wishes on a wheel Wishes on a wheel The voices in the hall Will carry on their talking Carry weight you can't take Wishes on a wheelIs it even real? The contact that you make The moment when a memory aches Who can tell? You do it well Wishes on a wheel How's it supposed to feel?... One in your lifeIt happens once and rarely twice One in your lifeIt happens once and rarely twice... The roses on the lawn Won't know which side you're on On that hill, forever still Wishes on a wheel How's it supposed to feel? Wishes on a wheel Wishes on a wheel 9. On the Sea (38:04) Out on the sea we'd be forgiven Our bodies stopped the spirit leaving Wouldn't you like to know how far you've got left to go Somebody's child Nobody made you It's not what you stole, it's what they gave you In or out, you go In your silence, your soul... Would you rather go unwilling? The heart is full and now it's spilling Barreling down the steps Only a moment left In hind of sight no peace of mind Where you begin and I'm defined Daughter of unconscious fate Time will tell, in spite of me In hind of sight no peace of mind Where it begins and we'll be fine Shadows bend and suddenly The world becomes And swallows me in, me in... Whistle to a friend Gentle 'til the end Any way in a name She takes shape just the same 10. Irene (43:37) Though you hardly know her The light's on its way The hand that rests upon it Still wanna stay... No way of recognizing The cat knows the call Fair child is rising There's no mystery at all... It's a strange paradise It's a strange paradise You'll be waiting You'll be waiting... It's a strange paradise (x13) (56:56) The kind you like To come back in Wherever you go No hawk in sight The scenic drive The signs just so The brightened lines Stay by your side Wherever you go The kind you like A comeback kid They told you so Wherever you go No doubt it It's true The light's up Wherever you go No doubt it It's trueThe kind you like No end in sight The rest you know

I know it sounds odd. I sit down with a cup of coffee, read the walking dead (graphic novel) and play this album. Something about it's dreamy, depressive yet engrossingly joyful tone lends itself to the theme. I stumbled upon Beach House when hearing "hours" played at a coffee house. Asked the dude who it was "ah man it's a band called Beach house. Check em out". So glad I did. Beach house takes me places I want to go. Like a dream you want to dream over and over. Set's me at ease. I don't know how they do it.

I do something very similar. Last year I flew to the coffee growing region of Puerto Rico and acquired some land there. I planted many beans, many magic beans. I listen to Beach House from my house as I look at the beach and fight saintly coffee boring beetles with my hands.I have named them all Sebastian and have legally changed my name to Diocletian. Living on top of a giant black bull and drinking my labor one mug at a time. The cloud forest flies over my head. My coffee cups send their aroma around the globe. The smell went so far east it became west.A beautiful woman from Shangai was awakened by the smell of my brew. She came to my cloud forest with her special shoes. I am now making a graphic novel about my adventures with the beans and beetles and my Chinese Macushla and Beach House is on infinite repeat.

Anyway, I am able to appreciate the references to loss of time and family due to choices that only I can change; but I am powerless to change them. Powerful music; I have loving family and 2 are dying/tx for cancer, and I am hiding out in south florida w my dogs and 300/day crack habit. "On The Sea" Out on the sea we’d be forgiven Our bodies stopped the spirit living Wouldn’t you like to know how far you’ve got left to go Somebody’s child nobody made you It’s not what you stole it's what they gave you In or out you go In your silence your soul Would you rather go unwilling Your heart is full and now it's spilling Barreling down the steps Only a moment left In hind of sight no peace of mind Where you begin and I’m defined Daughter of unconscious fate Time will tell in spite of me In hind of sight no peace of mind Where it begins and we're defined Shadows bend and suddenly The world becomes and swallows me in Whistle to a friend gentle till the end Anyway in a name she takes shape just the same

I currently am in high school and in a couple of days I will hopefully graduate. This past month has been very rough for me, because studying so hard when you're enduring a heavy chronic illness at the same time is particularly difficult, at least for me. This album has been keeping me company since then. I've always deeply loved Beach House, but I think that even in 10 years, if I still am living in this earth, I will remember listening to this incredible album, along with some others, for entire nights while studying for the exams that would officially determine the end of my teenagehood, although I've lost it a long time ago. I am so thankful for these amazing artists gifting us their mesmerizing art, I feel calmer when listening to them, so calm that I almost forget about my chronic pain. They truly are special.

We are all missing parts from the day we were born, it's why we are drawn together. We all spend so much time trying to fill them, and it almost never works, and if it does it's so so transient. Sometimes you look back and realize there was a time it was being filled and you didn't even know it, and now it's gone. Maybe someday, some of us will learn to grow those parts back before we die.

This album speaks to me. At a time when I was moving away from home, and being driven toward discovering myself and embracing the fears ahead of me, this album was my comfort. Each song would hit me in a visceral way, often bringing me to tears. I'm incredibly grateful for this music and this band, and hope that one day I can really express to them what they have done for me. The lessons that lie within these verses have changed my life for the better, and helped me touch something inside that I was /so/ afraid of even considering. Just like an amazing piece of art that moves you to change your life, they have impacted my life in a way that I can never forget. Thank you, Beach House, and thank you to those listening. Without you, their music would fall on deft ears.

This album is a blessing and a curse for this band. Blessing because it's perfect, and curse because of that same reason; it's impossible to make a better album and extremely difficult to make one as good. I love all their work but it's just crazy how many incredibly good songs they put together in this one. It's such a trip. I particularly have bittersweet and extremely NOSTALGIC thoughts and feelings when I listen to it. I listened to it for the first time in 2014 during a tough but at the same time exciting time of my life and it unintentionally became an intrinsic part of the soundtrack of my life. I used to listen to the full album on almost a daily basis for more than a year. The power of music is amazing and while we cannot travel in time physically, this is without a doubt the closest thing to it. When you listen to something on a daily basis and you truly connect with the music that stays with you forever and so do all the memories from that time. When the music is so magical and deep like this, and when your life is also full of intense stuff then that connection is 100 times stronger. Time travelling through music is a real thing, at least for me, and each combination of music + life at that moment has different nuances,it just happened to me to be lucky enough to have lived such intense moments (with the good and bad) having this album as the soundtrack of the last years of my youth, which matched in a perfectly magical way with everything that was going on. I wouldn't normally leave such a long comment but if this resonates with just one person out there, it'll have been worth it.

Going to totally brag right now but... the other night my wife and I were having date night at home (quarantining) and we had stars projected on the ceiling and a candle lit dinner and this album playing. When I went upstairs to check up on our 9 year old son, he was still awake. I asked him why he was still awake. He said "because that music is so beautiful I didn't want to fall asleep and miss it." It's so hard anymore for me to find artists that resonate with me in a big way, where I can get excited about their music. It seems to happen only about once every couple years now 'cause, sadly, I've become too hard to please, musically. Most music I hear bores, irritates, or only semi-impresses me. But I must say, the more I hear it, the more I'm falling in love with Beach House's music. There are some bands I just seem to be on the same wave length with, and virtually ALL their songs are very affecting, and "zing" me. I'm grateful Beach House is doing this for me. A few years ago, Dum Dum Girls was my fave new ("new" to me that is) band that does it, & a few years before that it was Mazzy Star. Perhaps it's no coincidence Beach House's Alex Scally said in 2010: "I think the main thing that Victoria is super-psyched about shaking is the Mazzy Star thing." And Dum Dum Girls' biggest song "Coming Down," is obviously significantly derived from Mazzy Star's biggest song "Fade Into You," as is Beach House's "Silver Soul," which also has some echoes of Mazzy Star's song. For some reason, there's a Mazzy Star connection to all 3 bands, and all 3 do it for me! Life's a Starry, Dum Dum Beach (House)!

Helped put my sister's dog down tonight. Had "on the sea" playing on the headphones on the drive home and all I could think about , was how she looked thinking she was just in for a routine checkup. She wanted to go home, but she had a stroke and tumors were starting to show on the side of her belly. I acted I wasn't going to cry, but now this song will always remind me of that moment. Although she wasn't my dog, I was very close to her and often watched her like my own. Love your furries and cherish what little time you have with them. 🥺😢

What a voice. Each song that starts, I think, 'oh, I think this is getting samey' - but then the song and arrangement goes to a different place entirely. And Victoria's delivery is absolutely fascinating and keeps you gripped from the first word to the last. There is no singer like her, the harmonies they achieve together are unique, and each album they produce is a quantum leap from the last - unbelievable.
