Acts 20:1-17 speaks about Paul coming to Miletus and sends for the elders of the church in Ephesus to meet him there.
Check out this video to find of why Paul wanted to meet with the elders and what happened with a man named Eutychus!
Here is a link to David Guzik's commentary on Acts 20: enduringword.com/bible-commen...

Pastor Guzik, My husband always falls asleep when I read our scriptures out loud at night. AND… he nods off in church. It’s so embarrassing. I keep reminding him of Jesus asking Peter can’t you stay awake for 1 hour? Then I remind him of this passage in Acts. Funny thing is, this was our study tonight. We’re in the middle of a storm and the electricity is out so he can’t sleep. He’s listening to you with me right now and cracking up because he knows he’s the person you’re talking about. Lol

When the pastor talked about Paul's heart for the people of the early churches, I thought about what a work God did in Paul. Going from persecutor to pastor. The accounts in Acts are not minute by minute, day by day accounts, but rather snapshots of significant moments in early church development and God's work in the lives of the early believers. One timeline I sourced indicated that from Acts 1 and Acts 20 = 27 years. Paul's conversion to Acts 20 = 23 years. Praise God (1) that His work on our hearts and lives is progressive which is a much easier yoke to wear than the immediacy of perfection; (2) Paul was still human, still a sinner and yet (at least after conversion thru Acts 20) the Bible doesn't diminsh any of the Lord's work through him on account of any human sin or imperfection. It's covered and hidden. Not our business. Praise God for the freedom in that and His heart toward us.

I actually was reading the book of acts but need or felt like I needed part of a nap. So I found this to listen to for a moment while I slept so I could partially listen and sleep.

This sounds like a Sunday night Bible study in somebody’s home. With the new Christians so eager to soak up anything they could, Paul was encouraged to speak late into the night. Especially since he had that sinking feeling he may not see them again. The fact that you said these were people who worked all day. I doubt very much they were meeting on a Sunday night after work for a regular ‘Sunday service’ as a regular commemoration of Christ’s resurrection. However what was most important to note was that this young man attended church with the adults to learn more from Paul! Imagine how hard he must have worked all day! Yet he still wanted to be there! Even after he fell and almost lost his life he stayed on! Imagine that happening in our day! 😂

Business people can sit through 7 hours of listening to learn how to make money, but one hour in church may be the only time all week that they can find to study God's Word, which is a shame

Yes, but not all are suit and ties type. My husband is a carpenter who works through all kinds of weather. And especially the summer here in Louisiana. He is absolutely drained. Then has the property to take care of on his off day. After listening to this, I’m going to not be so upset that he falls asleep when we’re doing Bible Study at night or if he dozes off in church. I get frustrated, but he truly is exhausted.

Let me start of by saying I thoroughly enjoy your messages. Praise God. I did however feel that part of your message today was misleading. In Exodus 20:8 the Lord God says to remember the Sabbath day and keep it Holy (Set Apart). This day if Sabbath (7th day or Saturday) was not changed until emperor Constantine changed it by the the authority of Rome. To say that the day was changed because the early Christians met there is very misleading in my opinion. They more than likely met daily. The commandments of God are written in stone. The sabbath day is a gift to humanity. I just felt the need to address this. Praise God and I’m thankful for your commitment to his Word. God bless you.
